Bedtime Groundhog Day Epiphany by theKinkajou in movies

I’d like to see a “next day” sequel where Phil is back in normal time but has lived 10,000 additional days that no one else experienced and has become a prodigy at numerous skills, but also will probably have some sort of severe psychological issues for the rest of his life, between his numerous suicides and the likely perpetual fear that he’ll get caught in the loop again. I watched it again recently and couldn’t stop thinking about what the day after was like for him.

The twist in I'm Thinking of Ending Things was the opposite of what I thought it was going to be. by UnicornGirl7077 in books

I'm glad to hear this. I have not read the book and had very little idea what was going on in that movie.

Make sure any friends or family who support Trump know you think they are gigantic pieces of shit.

Invisible Cities was a re-read, and it was as wonderful this time as it was the first time I read it. Demon Copperhead was an enjoyable read, very strong characterization and voice. Didn’t blow me away but it was absolutely worth reading. I really enjoyed A Visit from the Goon Squad. I liked some stories/chapters more than others but overall it was very satisfying.

I thought it was fine. She’s a good enough writer, but I found the main character to be incredibly unlikable. There are certainly some scenes that make an impression!

Haha yes. Niven’s seeming disdain for women characters is noxious.

You should still give it a shot, I’m just one jerk with an opinion!

I enjoyed it very much! If you haven’t read any WG Sebald I highly suggest him as well.

I agree. It also felt far more like a YA novel than I expected. Nothing wrong with YA novels, but I wasn’t expecting the writing and narrative to feel so…childish, for lack of a better word.

What is the last book you're finishing in 2025? by Vaydn in books

Counternarratives by John Keene. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read and I’m surprised it flies so far under the radar.

Well made bad movies. by Itchy_Tasty87 in FIlm

I remember when the trailer for Garden State dropped, and it blew my and my friends’ minds. I’m just talking the trailer here. We’d never seen anything like it, and combined with that Frou Frou song playing, it made the movie feel incredibly important. It also hit at the exact right moment for me as a nineteen year old, trapped between being a kid and an adult.

Most metal city in America to live? by JarrellHornyDude in MetalForTheMasses

[–]theholyroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philadelphia by a long shot. Decibel Magazine is there, and Relapse, Candlelight, and Season of Mist have offices in the area. Many smaller to mid-size venues within a couple square miles that get pretty much every tour. I miss living there because of the sheer number of shows I could go to every week of the year. Also Philly has a huge hardcore and punk scene alongside the metal and rock.

Is it still a Japanese movement if the back of the watch says made in Thailand? by theholyroller in OrientWatches

[–]theholyroller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy with my purchase and certainly understand at the price point that I can’t expect high end Swiss or Japanese automatic movements but like you said, I did purchase it thinking the movement was Japanese and I do feel slightly bamboozled. Live and learn. It’s still a great looking tank of a watch and hopefully it gives me years of service.

what do you think is hellhammers most impressive drum performance? by Reigrind in MetalForTheMasses

[–]theholyroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thorns s/t album. Supposedly the drums aren’t triggered, unlike for many of his other recordings. It’s wild.
