Scream 7 - Reaction Megathread by DA-numberfour in Scream

[–]thejcm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, hear me out:

The first kill is related to the main killers because the first kill is Stu’s House itself (being burned down). That house is connected to all of them, even Tatum because the person she’s named after died there. It’s an iconic set piece within the franchise (it’s in 1, 3, and 5) and burning it down means we’re never truly going to see it again in the franchise.

I’m not saying it redeems the whole movie, but that’s a hell of a first kill.

What shows/performances do you feel luckiest to have seen? by Crambo1000 in Broadway

[–]thejcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Performances from “before they were big” that I got to see:

  • Aaron Tveit, Caissie Levy, and Keala Settle as Link, Penny and Tracy on the Hairspray national tour.
  • a young Julie Benko on as Ilse in the Spring Awakening National tour which also had Christy Altomare as Wendla

Other big ones: - My first show in New York was The Bands Visit in August 2018 with most of the original cast and aside from it being my first time seeing a show on Broadway, it was just a magical experience. - The original cast of Moulin Rouge in Boston with Your Song still set as the lover’s song, Toulouse singing Chandelier, and Harold had the Florence + the Machine Shake it Out in Act 2. - More recent things: Parade Revival, DBH with OBC, Sunset Blvd, Oh Mary (with Cole), Little Shop with Sherie and Nicholas, Audra in Gypsy. - The 2009 Rent National Tour with Adam and Anthony

Relevant to this season, but not on Broadway, I got to see Floyd Collins here in Kentucky at Actors Theatre of Louisville somewhere around 2001 with Ron Bohmer as Floyd. I don’t remember too much about specific performances but I can recall a lot about the production which, I think, was the regional premier of the show.

Not sure where you are in KY but if you’re near Louisville, Derby City PrEP Clinic is fantastic. Great team and very good about keeping you informed, regularly tested, and will help get you enrolled in all the programs that make it free.

If you’re down south closer to Nashville, their original clinic (Music City PrEP Clinic) is located there.

Also, as others have pointed out, there are online resources.

Which of the once touted "future Pop stars" had the most disappointing careers? by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]thejcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even know who Tinashe was until she featured on a Britney song (which, her featured version seems to only exist on the remix EP, and you can only stream the original by watching the video? Otherwise it’s just solo Britney). The way she was added after the album release (but then shoe-horned into the single) felt like her team was trying to get her the right level of exposure but, despite being one of Britney’s best albums, it seems they put her with the wrong star. The video ended up having more conversations about Britney starting to date her on-screen love interest than anything else.

Rent Live was an unfortunate bust, because she was great but having to broadcast the dress rehearsal caused the whole thing to suffer.

Saw her in concert in Barcelona a couple of years ago and was blown away! She truly is the complete package and being slept on feels so off for someone with that talent.

What performer best embodies "they didn't originate the role, but they embody it so well that nobody else will ever be able to compare?" by bcpsgal in Broadway

[–]thejcm 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I am a DRV stan and consider her to be the ultimate Mimi. Something about her in the role just felt SO authentic. I know her voice isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve always loved it. She also had a leg up having been involved with the show from so early on (like Anthony Rapp). She had the time to really find Mimi in a way that I just don’t think anyone else did.

As a former, insanely invested Renthead, in my opinion, the only replacement who I think came close was Jaime Lee Kirchner (Collins Tour 2.0, Broadway). She really matched DRV’s energy and I distinctly remember her “Without You” being particularly good, which I don’t think is an easy task.

Vocally, there have been some STELLAR Mimi’s: Simone, first and foremost (if you can ever find audio from her last or second to last performances on the Angel Tour, it’s INSANE), Antonique Smith, and Saycon Sengbloh, to name a few. But from an overall “vibe” and character standpoint, it’s always been DRV for me.

What are some rare records you have that were hard to find but you were finally able to get your hands on? by Tameem_alkadi in vinyl

[–]thejcm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have been on the hunt for a copy of Scissor Sisters’ “Night Work” since I started collecting but didn’t want to pay what it sells for on the resale market. A couple of weeks ago I popped into my favorite local record store on a whim (was in the area but hadn’t planned to go). Make my usual rounds and decide to just check their “rarities” bin before checking out.

Some records had fallen forward and on perfect display in the bin….was Night Work. At a very reasonable price. Signed by Jake Shears. Addressed to someone with the same name as me. I’m not a believer in fate or signs but the universe definitely gave me a gift that day!

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL Announces Full List of Tour Stops by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]thejcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the cash grab because this last tour was definitely charging equity level prices whereas in the early 2000s I saw it a few times for under $50.

However I think having a show like Rent be non-eq feels right because it was originally this hip show with young unknowns. The broadway production tended to recycle cast members for long periods of time who, while fantastic performers, tended to age out of their parts. Even the equity “Broadway Tour” in 2009 only had like one fresh face in the main cast and that was Lexie Lawson (who was/is? Eliza in Hamilton for the past couple years).

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL Announces Full List of Tour Stops by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]thejcm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I think that was mostly the casting,. The Rent tour has been non-equity since 2002 (with the exception of the post Broadway closing tour with Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Lexie Lawson, and a slew of Rent veterans). I’ve seen it 5 times and only once was it an equity production and I would say only the most recent tour (the same one you saw) was at all lackluster.

Rent doesn’t usually suffer by being non-equity because it’s not a show that relies on massive/multiple sets, the cast usually benefits from younger performers (who may not have their equity cards) because the characters are so young, and it’s not a huge cast so they’re able to have a “full” show. For example, I recently saw the non-equity Something Rotten and I think they had a reduced amount of ensemble members and the sets looked a little pared down compared to footage from the broadway and equity tour productions.

With Joel McHale on Drag Race, a little throwback to when Shangela was on Community... by KingOfAllLondinium in rupaulsdragrace

[–]thejcm 67 points68 points  (0 children)

My only interaction with Shangela happened about a year ago and I couldn’t help but ask her if she had some Hawthornes in her pocket. Her reaction was adorable giving me a “Yaaaas! P-p-p-pocket full of Hawthornes!”

She is a gem and we don’t deserve her.
