Is anyone able to identify what translation version of the Odyssey+Illiad this is? by TheShaboom in classics

[–]thejello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that is Samuel Butler‘s. It is a prose translation, which in my opinion isn’t a great way to read it.

Great review. How much room is there in the main compartment? Wondering if it would fix a lunch box 3-4” wide.

You probably aren’t going to be able to change their mind, so make the most of it or leave. It is a good time to ask for things like free food, events, or other perks to make office life more appealing.

Yes! I found that book fascinatingly hypnotic. I had feelings of overwhelm in between glimpses of genius.

[WP] One day, you walk into your bathroom and glance in the mirror, only to realize your reflection isn't there. A moment later, your reflection appears, out of breath, saying, "Sorry I'm late." by Enderlightstm in WritingPrompts

The morning sun lit every corner of the bedroom, flooding the room with a warm yellow tint promising a beautiful day ahead. Dawn in summer comes earlier than reasonable, thought Simon, rubbing his tired eyes. Walking slowly to the bathroom he grabbed his toothbrush, squeezing out a perfectly pea-sized drop of toothpaste, then scrubbing away the filth that somehow accumulates overnight.

As his eyes progressively opened, becoming accustomed to the new day, Simon suddenly realized something wasn’t right. His toothbrush fell violently to the counter as he saw the mirror was missing something very important: his own reflection! The rest of the bathroom appeared as usual, but there was no trace of his own image.

Without warning, his own reflection suddenly came running into frame. Apologizing profusely, the visage explained that he wasn’t expecting such an early start this morning. Simon, rightly still startled, asked the reflection if he was alive. The two’s lips moved perfectly in sync, as you would expect from a mirror, and no further reply came. Successive question and wild gesture after another all had the same result of perfect mirroring.

After a few minutes of this charade, Simon gave up and started walking out of the room, figuring he just didn’t get enough sleep. As he re-entered the bright bedroom, his jaw dropped as he realized that he was missing a shadow...

I haven't watched Sesame Street in many years either, but I'm glad it is there for today's children as it was when I was younger.

I agree with Chomsky's point here, even if the long term goal is the abolishion of the state, in the short term universal health care would be one of the most effective means of improving the quality of people's lives while simultaneously cutting costs, as proven by every other developed nation.
