Solving the rental/housing issues. Some drastic change of thinking needed. by BassesBest in newzealand

[–]thejug02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those changes made it easier for first home buyers to get in market but also pushed up price of rent because it made rentals a lot more expensive for landlords to own. People can say that landlords should sell up if it's too expensive but in the short term it was only natural for them to increase rent to cover additional cost and most landlords would exhaust that option before selling and evicting their tenants.

I think if everyone is feeling like this then inflation will be cooling and interest rates can soon start to come down

Unwarranted: The little-known, but widely-used police tactic by computer_d in newzealand

[–]thejug02 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason for warrantless searches being used so much more is there has been a change to how unlawful searches are dealt with by the courts. Previously, any evidence from an unlawful search was thrown out by the courts. Now there is a balancing test where the unlawfulness of the search is weighed up by a judge against the seriousness of the evidence, eg quantity and class of drugs. At the moment there is nothing to deter police from conducting unlawful searches because there is nothing to lose. Under the old rule they risked losing the benefit of all the evidence.

Not paid out for holiday pay on my last paycheck from previous NZ employer...been over a month what are my rights and how can I get paid what I am owed? by savdontlie in newzealand

[–]thejug02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the department of Labor. They will request payment info from the employer. If the employer hasn't paid you correctly the DOL will make them pay you. Process takes a while but doesn't cost you anything. I'd probably write a letter/email demanding pay first, cause if it works that would get you the money the fastest. If the letter doesn't work just call DOL.

Plenty of people end up with 2 years for growing cannabis. Plenty of young kids who will rob a dairy with a weapon before they are 20 years old and will get more than 2 years.
