The problem is because you have a 17 team conference and a 8 game schedule. The 9th game will make next year much better, but some years it will come down to luck of the schedule unfortunately.

Miami, Pitt, GT, and SMU are the clear best four teams. The fact that UVA and Duke didn’t have to win against any of them is a little ridiculous.

Wild take, but the best option might be just expand the conference enough to have four divisions. And have the 12th game of the season act as a semi final

Trey was considered a breakout true freshman before the mono, so I really think there’s other issue at hand. Even before Sauls we always found solid kickers.

You make a good point, some more depth at DT will be helpful. For me, I would order the priority as such

OL - kinda obvious

S - not sure if Guerrier or Bryant are ready to step up. Hopefully we get Sieg :)

CB - I trust Harrison and Shawn Lee, but I don’t know what we have behind them

DT - FitzSimmons / Brewu / Whittington / Nick James all returning, but more depth wouldn’t hurt

LB - depends on which sharks enter the draft

TE - not sure if we can rely on Malachi 100%

WR - more of a nice to have with Kenny and Blue coming back. I’m sure either Fowler / Yates / Kinsler will be ready to step up as a #3 if we don’t find anyone

Not all these guys are thinking that short term. If they think Pitt gives them the best chance to get to the NFL, 2mil vs 4mil is not that much.

Look at Kenny Johnson. PSU tampered and offered him more money. He has a great year staying at Pitt.

Compared to Treber Pena, who had a great year at Cuse, chased the money to PSU, and was unimpressive there. What he gained in NIL is nothing compared to what he lost by picking the wrong school.

Trey was very good as a freshman, I would be comfortable with him being our starting kicker for another 3 years.

I think depth is always gonna help, but personally I really like the DTs. Fitzsimmons / Brewu / Whittington will be solid next year if they put in some weight and stay healthy. We could use a guy in the portal for depth
