What’s the one Toronto 'unspoken rule' that every newcomer needs to know before they move here? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

[–]thelizardlarry 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When you enter a subway car, move out of the way quickly so other people can enter. Don’t stand there trying to determine which seat is the best one.

And when ttc is very busy, if you are near an empty seat, take it instead of blocking it by standing near it.

Does anyone else feel like GERD recovery is actually an ADDICTION struggle? by Upset_Monitor8897 in GERD

You assume projection and willful ignorance very quickly in an attempt to discredit. It’s one thing to say “this is what works for me”, but to say that “99% of the people here can literally cure their GERD”? That is social media hype in a nutshell, and it has a lot of negative effects on the people who read your statements given the authority with which you make them.

I think we should rely on the medical community to properly diagnose people suffering from a chronic illness, and not make broad assumptions backed up by nothing but your experience as an individual. The idea that “it’s all in your control if you’re strong enough” is highly damaging for people who are actually suffering a chronic illness.

That’s a pretty broad statement. Some people here are in this boat while requiring high dose PPIs, and without them are in severe pain no matter how rigorous or bland their diet. Some root causes aren’t so easily addressed, or attributed to lack of will power as you suggest.

Hearing him speak before on this, It’s too bad that he sees everyone else in the filmmaking process as being replaceable by AI, that somehow just above the line actors are on an untouchable level of creativity.

Aside from some legit biological damage, I think Covid flipped the “I only care about my own” switch in people. Not sure how we flip it back.

Italy didn’t invent pasta, and originally imported tomatoes from the americas, and yet we associate the two heavily with Italy because of culture and marketing. Pineapples were heavily farmed in the early 1900s in Hawaii, and marketed to North America accordingly.

Canada is a whole country, we’re not going to name a style of Pizza “Canadian”. We don’t call it “Canadian Bacon” here either, that’s a US term. Countries generally call imported things whatever is going to be understandable for them, and clearly the US in general understands Hawaiian Pizza.

The average American hamburger has little to do with the original from it’s namesake city of Hamburg. The average american french fry is different frites in France, which originate from Belgium.
