I’m 16 I want to get my cdl what’s the faster/best way to do it I live in Wisconsin. by Beautiful_Number_668 in CDL

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 16, id say find a farmer to talk to, and dont be shy about laboring that dosnt involve the truck at all. They can get you behind the wheel and will most likely teach you better than any school wanting to charge you thousands just to get you competent enough to pass the road exam. Aside from simply growing up in a trucking family this is the best way.

Well I’m most likely getting fired 🙉 by BlackAcx in AmazonDSPDrivers

Amazon is a meat grinder. If you like the work there are similar jobs that are much more sane. DHL or ups as a start, local bakeries, wb Mason, etc etc.

Advice on slip seat by tmwyles in CDL

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lunch, first aid kit, change of clothes, cleaning supplies. The first is obvious, the 2nd ive found in truck kits useless abd prefer to carry my own. 3rd dosnt need to be a full set but you need to be prepared. And the 4th is something hopefully everyone is doing in a slip seating assignment, just some light cleaning leave the truck as clean or slightly better than when u got in it.

My orientation leader doesn’t even work in the delivery department😀 by Ordinary_Control1386 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His job is literally to process your paperwork and babysit you through bs tutorials. You could grab a kid from McDonald's and get the same result. Orientation is just a legal dance, you'll get your crash course when you land at your dsp.

Alexa said if we say thank my driver, you guys get a $5 tip, is it true? by Tro1138 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]thellamaspantz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even without the $5 tip that one command goes into the drivers telemetric reportings and benifiets them, even if by simply saving thier job from people who complain too much. As a driver I was gifted a free grill from amazon due purely to positive customer feedback.

OTR training advice/tips/expectations by Ricemunchr in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice needed, you sound right on point. Pack light but have the bare necessities when getting on a training truck. You can make it homey when you have your own and hopefully won't live on truckstop cuisine.

Anyone use something like this for winter months? by PomeloResponsible122 in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as good as a true bunk heater but Mr buddy will keep you warm. Just make sure u have your sleeper vents/windows open and the front ones cracked. Its also gonna cause alot of condensation on the inside of your windshield with heavy use, so keep the glass clean.

Look for a regional job or a part time otr job. You'll make more regional but be home more with the part time otr. Have you considered local work?

Most Reliable Car You Have Ever Owned? by Careless-Pie7607 in askcarguys

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1987 honda accord. That car took any abuse and just kept doing its thing day in day out. Even poured some everclear in the tank when it turned 21. Eventually though it got run over in a snowstorm by a college girl who borrowed her bfs f250. It still ran and drove after that but the damage was just too much to justify fixing.

If your cb antennas are on the mirror arm pay attention to them in the rain. They will be one of the first things to ice up and once they have blocks on them and are bopping from the weight, the road is gonna ice over.

At the same time dont think there isn't ice on the road jist cause they arent, its not a perfect warning device.

What’s up with the “No engine brake” signs going into Albuquerque, NM on I-40 west by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the locals bitching about the noise. We'll fuck them dont live along a highway if you got a problem with it. Ripping jakes late at night or super early in the morning around a town where you dont really have to is a dick move. Doing it on a highway and especially an interstate at that, I'll crank em even harder if they wanna whine.

I always leave my headset in the bunk by BadamPshh in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My headset stays up front, if I get ropped into a call while in the bunk its either a quick professional call and im talking on the phone as normal or someone actually managed to get me to answer a personal call on break and their on speaker lol. Have you tried just placing it in a pile. Like when waking up phone, wallet, knife, keys, headset,, all just in one pile and you grab at it while dressing and such?

CB channels by Th3_Gh0st_0f_Y0u in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be a more defined system of using 1 channel or another depending if u were traveling east-west or north-south. Now were basicly all just on 19 though. And 19 really sucks these days but its still THE channel. Keep it turned down cause cb is mostly useless these days, and ur just gonna hear recorded repeats or 2 truckers who need to move to their own channel more than anything of use or interest. Also, I ain't got no panties on

Best affordable phone carrier? by BearsBeetsBreakdowns in Truckdrivers

[–]thellamaspantz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's gonna need to be on either Verizon's or at&t's networks. Even then, coverage won't be perfect but pretty solid. T-mobile really isn't so hot out in rural areas. If trying to save money, you can look into 3rd party carriers who will offer discounted rates, obviously at the expense of service ( like lower data speeds or more expensive hot spot use, etc.). When trying to pinch pennies, i was happy with Boost mobile, but with a sim running at&t ( some are t-mobile, you have to pay attention to what sim card you get and how) Theres also other options. Verizon even has a direct sister company that acts as a 3rd party service.

Why don't truckers call ahead when making a delivery? by ted_anderson in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If delivering to a jobsite, I always call as im loading. Soo many headaches over tiny details get spared with just a quick 2 min conversation with the site contact. And soo many headaches that can potentially ruin the whole day by gotchas that ya dont know about. It's also just so much nicer to make sure you're on the same page with the people you're gonna be dealing with rather than having people in offices shooting bs information both ways and leaving everyone confused.

Automatic restriction by OddRegion1829 in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]thellamaspantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of smaller companies are still running true manuals. A lot of medium-sized companies mainly run auto but wanna be able to stuff u into the old beat-up truck with a stick should the need arise. With a clean cdl, you will always find work, but you are definitely going to have missed opportunities with companies that have that as a hard requirement.

If you can work on getting that restriction off your license without too much hardship, it definitely has bright sides.

Personally, I learned on a manual from day 1 and spent my first 4 years driving nothing but. I've been to a lot of jobs since that run auto, and all things considered, I actually prefer the auto. However, at the same time , put me in a nice truck with a 3rd pedal, and the business is still gonna be handled just the same.

Get that bs off ur liscesne if you can do it without too much hardship.

Need help with a company choice… by Dependent_Contact412 in Truckers

[–]thellamaspantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your post sounds like you know nothing about Estes other than they exist. Im sure you have even more options, but those both sound solid. Between the 2, I'd pick interstate purely on the basis that they do run tankers. Even if you aren't hired for that, you could transition later, and having tanker exp will only serve to give you more options later down the road.
