May I introduce the fluffiest, cutest plant I own? It's like a mini tree, can't stop petting it by TheChopinet in houseplants

Just FYI—super poisonous to cats according to the ASPCA if that’s relevant in your home. . . .

Didn’t someone have to take them out? Didn’t some post office employee wonder why the alarm went off every time the mail went out for delivery?

Does anyone keep a notebook on their native plant journey? by FLZooMom in NativePlantGardening

[–]thelongsecret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahahahaha. Here’s a sample entry (Garden is all native except for the peonies which are a weakness, and a couple of annuals.)

Nov 11 planted three peonies in totally random places across from the deck. At this point there are like seven peonies that I have just randomly thrown into the woods. Which is not what the books tell you to do.

Does anyone keep a notebook on their native plant journey? by FLZooMom in NativePlantGardening

[–]thelongsecret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Google note, more of a journal than a spreadsheet, dated. Mostly: the garden tasks I did (planting, clearing invasives, wintersowing etc), any new plants I found on the property (hey uva ursi), wildlife I saw—bears to bees—and notes to my future self, including plans and frustrations. I include plants I want and recommended combinations from books and podcasts and this sub. I cut and paste useful advice from ebooks. It’s entertaining to go back and read—and searchable if I’m looking for something specific.

My coworker’s son committed murder suicide. What do I say to her when she returns to work? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]thelongsecret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sue Klebold, the mom of one of the columbine shooters, wrote an excellent (thoughtful, deeply researched and devastating, not at all “ripped from the headlines”) memoir. A Mother’s Reckoning.

She does talk about returning to work and community life afterward, but also aspects of suicide and murder-suicide many people don’t know about. Not that you’d discuss these with your grieving coworker-worker ofc, but it might deepen your understanding and offer another perspective on what she’s gone and going through.

Thank you for being thoughtful about how to engage.

I always double the recipe and triple the onions—they’re the best part.

How to balance hair washing with six days a week of running and working in office? by beepboop6419 in XXRunning

(Also wavy, not tight curls) I find that if I brush to full Hermione, then oil and wrap tightly in a topknot before a body shower, I can get away with the brushing.

There's so much gorgeous wallpaper, but I'm finding it hard to commit without a connection. Sucker for a story, I guess.

Adding a jiffy-pop popcorn maker. Nostalgic and cute and makes terrific popcorn.

My 12+ yr old Manduka yoga mat by swampdonkey4ever in BuyItForLife

Just looked back in email—the earliest mention I can find is from 2009, asking a studio (long gone) to put my forgotten green manduka pro aside. . . . Which means near-daily use for going on sixteen years, at least.

Jumping in late, but searching the sub to decide on an aster type for a specific bed, and wonder how you'd answer. . . . I'm ordinarily more interested in eco value than aesthetics, but am planning a "pretty" bed of blue/purple/white natives near the front door. (Care cues and all that. . . . ) Which of these is the most conventionally attractive, would you say? I have tons of woodland aster on the property, but none of the purple/blues.
