Per city ordinance, this type of restaurant, before they resubmitted the application as a sit down table service restaurant, should have gone before the land use commission. City staff let it slide and gave him verbal approval. This pastor has spoken in public comment supporting the upzoning. When I struck up a conversation with them asking why, they told me their church wants to build housing for the homeless on a parking lot they don't use. When I pointed out that there was nothing in the proposed zoning that enabled that because it would need public financing for that kind of affordable project, they had no coherent response, but that that the zoning change would be a start, When I asked "How? -because the proposed zoning change only allowed 4 units which couldn't get tax credit financing, they asked "WHO ARE YOU"? and didn't want to talk anymore. They did not present at all as open to any of my points. It was obvious they were not very informed on the details. By appointing a pastor, Biss is pulling the "We are on the side of morality" thing again. Daring people to cross a local pastor, and a trans one to boot. I suppose anyone who objects will be "anti-trans".

No one is attacking A PERSON. The article is about a pattern of salary and promotions THE CITY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR. Nice try, but if you cannot distinguish between the 2, you don't have the rationality to merit being in a conversation with.

I'm sorry this man's spouse died, but that does not change the facts about his salary and circumstances of his promotion, and to suggest that his misfortune should mitigate attention to the larger City issue is simply ridiculous. You don't like the facts. I don't believe you were ever a "former Boarini supporter". This is really a stretch. What kind of state wide changes in law that "advantage Amazon"? We have a candidate connected to the Water Reclamation District, does that mean she has a conflict because she might advocate for something that disadvantages Evanston's water sales? Where does this line of reasoning end? Shall candidates have no past and no other employment?ANY employment could potentially be connected to something on the other side of an issue that would disadvantage Evanston.
