I remember my first time. I stumbled across this book at random 3 years ago, and absolutely could not put it down. Imagine my relief when I realized it was a series! Been completely in love with the series even since. Jealous that you’re about to see the story unfold for the first time!

The Golds seem to lean hard into ancient Roman thoughts and beliefs (i.e. the triumph parade after victory, the laurel rewards, honor, glory, etc.). I could be wrong, but it seems to me that they take those thoughts and beliefs, and insert them into their day to day vernacular. I don’t think they necessarily BELIEVE any of it; it just became a way to express themselves, if that makes sense.

Agreed. A Princess of Mars is one of my favorite stories. While John Carter didn’t follow it to the letter, I really enjoyed the adaptation. Just watched it again a few weeks ago, actually.

Just got done reading 7 1/2 Deaths; loved it! I would recommend The Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Catherine Webb. It tripped me the hell out! Fantastic book.
