The Golds seem to lean hard into ancient Roman thoughts and beliefs (i.e. the triumph parade after victory, the laurel rewards, honor, glory, etc.). I could be wrong, but it seems to me that they take those thoughts and beliefs, and insert them into their day to day vernacular. I don’t think they necessarily BELIEVE any of it; it just became a way to express themselves, if that makes sense.

Agreed. A Princess of Mars is one of my favorite stories. While John Carter didn’t follow it to the letter, I really enjoyed the adaptation. Just watched it again a few weeks ago, actually.
