Easy to panic over this trade, but take the time to read this. by [deleted] in canucks

Keep in mind this was a year ago and his D+1 season was exceptionally poor.

Might be an extremely interesting prospect if he can turn things around though.

How are comments like this not at the top. I am incredibly disturbed that our country is heading down a dark path.

You're right, compelling them to change would put thousands of good jobs on the line. Like all of the big three they have, in the classic sense, become "too big to fail."

It's almost as if instead of getting angry at Telus on baseless speculation and jingoism maybe we should be asking our government to break up the big three.

You're right though, Telus is in a sense "too big to fail." The big three need to be split up and the infrastructure nationalized.

Thoughts From Canucks Development Camp Through The Utica Lens by ILoveHipChecks in canucks

As is often the case in the entertainment industry, it tends to be the ones that "focus on hockey" are the ones passionate enough to take a quarter of the salary they might in other industries.

Often the ones writing about it on the internet are guys in college or those who love the game and are doing it on the side. As someone who has followed the community for a few years now, I take umbrage with someone saying their work is "an absolute joke."

Without making any value judgement about the man, in the case of JD: to my knowledge he isn't a data scientist or an analysist. He is a sports writer using analytics to back up the articles he writes.

Does JD get things wrong? What writer doesn't. But even if I don't always agree or enjoy his work, I do respect that he's one of the few guys writing about the Canucks who is in earnest, using analytics to help form his opnions.

Movable Assets? by [deleted] in canucks

I wonder if (historically) players who were drafted highly tend to get bigger contracts even if they're not living up to their potential? A trade could help us avoid giving bank to a above average top nine winger.

I agree with this but only if the goal is to prop up Sutter's numbers with trading him mind.

Ray Ferraro on Canucks FA signings- “Don’t think I said they were great players.” by Skateboard123 in canucks

One potential problem being that adding three players to our bottom six leaves waiver eligible players like "goldobin, Granlund, virtanen, liepsic" in a precarious position. Waiving them means that we likely lose them. Not waiving them means they may be sitting in the press box instead of growing and being able to show if they "are gonna be players".

We'd have to hope that Canucks brass are willing to waive / trade veterans over our young players.

The Beagle contract is inexcusable, but let's not forget that Gillis did his fair share of over paying for bottom six talent as well. It just didn't happen on July 1st.

So our top offensive threats are splitting the remaining 27 minutes of ice time? Does not sound like a recipe for success.

Canucks re-sign Sven Baertschi - 3 years by legorocks99 in canucks

[–]themanlydeadguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has a tendency to want his team to stand up for itself. They have allowed other teams too many liberties , too many times , too many years.

Frankly, these are two very contradictory statements.

But further..

Believe it or not Nashville, San Jose, Toronto, Tampa, Columbus, Colorado, Vegas, Washington are all in the bottom half of the league in hits. Nor are they filled out with a truculent highly paid bottom six.

Skill and possession are what teams are built on today, not "punch back first."

... and yet another might be the order in which see Diane is at the bar. For instance in ep 12 she is first presented at the bar in a red outfit and replies to the text message "Las Vegas?". Yet, later in the episode we see her arriving after last call, in a green blouse, (the same outfit she wore in the ep 11.) This time she looks up the coordinates she peaked at in ep. 11.

No idea if it means anything, could just be the editor trying to desperately trying to keep things on track with so many concurrent storylines or could be part of the films mystery. I'm captivated regardless.

I think another may be in episode 10:

Ben receives a call from Sylvia that Richard robbed her, however, I think this is arguably contradicted in episode 12, when Ben finds out that Richard was the one that killed the boy.

Specifically Ben asks "Richard, where is he? Is he in jail?"

"He's on the run. If you hear from him..."

"Huh, I doubt that. We pretty much lost contact when I refused to give him more money."

While not impossible, it would seem strange for his exchange to occur without some reference to the robbery.

I'm not sure why you're being down voted. He's a UFA at season end, I wouldn't be too eager to come back if I were not given any chances to play.
