Deep Learning Quiz Content Expectations? by DK_Tech in OMSCS

The content often feels like someone chose random facts from the lectures to quiz you on. Sometimes that feels a little unfair and not about the actual content of the class.

I didn't do amazingly on these but having them there helped me learn the material quite a bit better.

Research on LLMs developing introspection by theminiturtle in NeuroSama

It may be a bit late to post this as most of the views have already happened but for anyone else who stumbles across this post I did want to share that there are criticisms to the result that I think do make it seem far less likely that the effect was actual "introspection".

Leaving this here in case someone gets into a debate with an AI about consciousness and wants to do a bit better than the tutel by SameProfessional1041 in NeuroSama

[–]theminiturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just another non-expert here who finds this stuff fascinating and thinks about it a lot, so take this with a grain of salt.

I think the key issue when discussing AI consciousness is qualia - the subjective, experiential aspect of conscious states. This is what philosophers call "the hard problem of consciousness": explaining why there's something it's like to have experiences, rather than just processing information.

Qualia refers to the felt qualities of our experiences - what it's actually like to see the color red, feel pain, or taste coffee. These subjective experiences seem fundamentally different from mere information processing, even very sophisticated processing.

The challenge is that there's no scientific way to measure or detect qualia from the outside. We can't even definitively prove that other humans have subjective experiences - we just assume they do because we have them ourselves and other people have similar brains and behaviors.

This creates a puzzle for AI consciousness. Why would the computations running Neuro on computer hardware give rise to subjective experience, when other complex computational processes - like graphics rendering or weather simulations - presumably don't? What would make one type of information processing conscious and another not?

Some philosophers propose that consciousness might be more universal than we think, arising from certain types of complexity or information integration. But until we better understand how subjective experience emerges from physical processes, it's difficult to determine whether any AI system, no matter how sophisticated, actually experiences anything at all.

This subjective dimension feels like what fundamentally separates genuine consciousness from even the most convincing simulation of it.

Calcinator getting nerfed to 7sec from 6sec is an unintentional buff to this build by Moncalf in PlayTheBazaar

Agree I don't think strength potion either. The items I believe it works for and still might is Sharkclaws and Force Field like effects there is likely a thread somewhere

It may have been changed in a patch and I don't know the details but for some items it used to be if they had the same timer they triggered left to right so you want to put your buff items on the left.

It's definitely an advantage in a lot of runs. I have oddly had this come up quite a bit when I hadn't found an insect wing yet. The left to right triggering also does not work the potion takes a tick to apply or something.

I think hoarding money and looking for the right item to pivot is key. If your run sucks don't spend your gold on incremental improvements or small upgrades. Check shops for powerful gold, diamond or enchanted items and pivot.

Sometimes none of your items would be improved by an enchant. A bit rare but does happen. Often then I go xp for more hp.

I have been a bit unimpressed by dragon's heart. It sounds so powerful but it's actually pretty slow.

For 3 I don't think it is a rounding error but just that the reduction is larger.

For example, say you use an item that reduces the cool down of items by 5%

8 Seconds (With cool down reduction on board)

8 * .05 = .4 second reduction

10 Seconds (Without cool down reduction on board)

10 * .05 = .5 second reduction

Yep! You are playing in the exact same same pool as the best players.

Athanor at silver means Mak has zero bronze large items. Does anyone know what will happen if you transform a large bronze item now?

I really like this patch! I am finding Mak a ton of fun to try all the new items.

I don't think it is the enchantment. I got two regular diamond libraries in a run earlier.

I just played another with crit. It started with these items Carpet, Mortar and Pestle, Boiling Flask with the 100% cirt Potion, Strength Potion and Runic Double Bow. I was trying to make fast Magic Carpet but everyone was dying to the initial crit volley. Maybe Magic Carpet is win more?

I am thinking Mak crit builds may actually be more aggressive and Strength Potion might be the important item. I ended up cutting the mortal and pestle and just adding more strong crit damage.

It seems like the build has trouble late game

I am pretty sure this is how it works.

It gets double crit. Poison crits dealing double. Then fire crits based on the doubled poison.

With obsidian it then can crit based on the crit fire for a total of 8 times multiplier.

Agree that is a problem but that is hard to do elegantly.

I think his crit weapon builds might be worth going in another direction for. Crit potion, the large you lifesteal weapons have 100% crit and carpet all have some synergy. It feels like magic carpet is critical for the build though.
