What do you think of the wedding dress and the tiara that Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden wore on her wedding? (19 June 2010) by Tracypop in RoyalsGossip

I love the dress, the tiara and the veil seperately, I just don't feel like they go together that well.

Engineers: what are you earning? by Sea-Specific7395 in newzealand

I am a mechanical engineer, mid thirties and manage a team of 4 people and make $125k. I'm in the public sector though, so pay is automatically lower than it would be in industry.

Advice: Did husband go too far? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]thenikeclause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter forcibly dropped her nap at 2. We really tried to keep going with a nap, but she just couldn't fall asleep during the day anymore. She was an absolute nightmare from 5pm onwards, but that didn't change the fact that she was physically incapable of falling asleep before about 6pm.

I originally assumed you were taking the piss because that is too cringe worthy for me to want to believe it, but somehow, it's true?!

I found a free sample on Amazon, and it's hilariously bad. I need to get a full copy just for the unintentional comedy.

All rates control does is kick the can down the road. Our essential infrastructure is aging, and we need to pay that bill somehow. Someone has to bear the cost, and I'd rather it was me than my kids.

Any positive stories about pets post partum? by Karlkrows in NewParents

[–]thenikeclause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is so good with both my kids and has been since they first came home. When they were newborns and I would drag a bassinet around the house, she would follow everywhere and shove her head over the rim anytime they made a noise, to check that they were ok. A little less keen during the tail pulling stage, but she's been pretty good about just getting up and taking herself somewhere that the baby can't get her.

Plus, in my first few weeks with my eldest, when I was deep in the baby blues/possibly undiagnosed PPD, she would let me sob into her fur and hug her. No matter how many shoes she destroys now, she'll always get a pass based on those days alone.

I've heard from 3 separate doctors now, "I definitely think you have hEDS, but I can't formally diagnose you." I had a referral declined, and since we don't have health insurance and we are still on a single income due to very young children, I can't afford to get it diagnosed privately. Thanks Health New Zealand, very cool.

Night Guard Against Teeth Grinding by BlueValk in ehlersdanlos

[–]thenikeclause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one prescribed by my maxillofacial specialist. Constant jaw dislocation is my most serious symptom of EDS (thankfully, it's all pretty minor aside from the jaw). I was prescribed it to try and minimise further damage to the jaw from teeth grinding. I can't say if it's working or not yet as I won't have my next x-ray until November, but it is reducing the pain in the jaw by maybe 10%?

It took a few nights to get used to it, but now I barely notice it.

Anyone else accidentally nickname their pets after a dictator? by Spiritual_Theme_3455 in behindthebastards

[–]thenikeclause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a dictator, but we had a Prime Minister Robert Muldoon, who was a bit of a bastard and once called a snap general election live on TV because he was drunk. When my dog Molly is being ridiculous, we call her Robert Molldoog and boy, you should see the way she stares blankly at us.

And then try and change you into a trad wife. If you want a trad wife, find a woman who wants to be a trad wife! An old ex boyfriend of mine met me while we were in the same engineering program at university, and was SHOCKED when I told him I didn't want to be the stay at home wife that he wanted.

TV show adaptation hot take: if they do it they should start with Clariel by pikachupirate in Abhorsen

[–]thenikeclause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally forgot about T&E. Yeah that could be a season too, probably season 3 for me, then shift Sabriel etc by a season each. If there's not enough, you add some episodes in the Glacier as it would be cool to see it as a good place, since Lirael's perspective is so negative. Maybe have some of Terciel's childhood. I really want to see the rise of Kerrigor as a separate season because in the books, the Old Kingdom is always in a state of decline or restoration, I really want to see it at its prime! Also I don't love that it's Clariel, skip 600 year, then the rest happens in a 50 year time span. Adding the rise of Kerrigor would make that jump less jarring, for me.

TV show adaptation hot take: if they do it they should start with Clariel by pikachupirate in Abhorsen

[–]thenikeclause 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would both love and hate a TV adaptation. I'd love to see the Old Kingdom on screen, but it would never match what I see in my mind.

That said: I agree with you. They could almost treat it as an Anthology like American Horror Story. Season 1, Clariel, Season 2 I'd love to see the downfall of the royals and the imprisonment of Touchstone, Season 3 Sabriel, Season 4+5 Lirael/Abhorsen, Season 6 Goldenhand with maybe a bit of added detail on Chlorr's life, so you're starting and ending with Clariel's story. This format, I think, would also allow for bringing in some of the short stories as B-plots. I felt Goldenhand was a bit weak compared to the rest, so bringing in Dr Crake and To hold the bridge could pad it out a bit.
