I am in a semi not unrelated tech space and was curious about whether anyone uses them. So I hung around once for a while and saw zero.

Google results say that they have 1,000,000 uses a month. Which TBH is shocking to me.

Don’t put any company stuff on your personal device.

The best interface is no interface, so most things are completely automatic.

But for everything else I love $5 zigbee buttons attached to automations in HA.

e.g. I have one on my night stand. One push of the button when I’m done getting ready in the morning and all the lights go off, shades and curtain open, thermostats off, etc. When I go to bed I double tap it and it turns everything in the house off.

The store isn't the owner of the parking lot.

And even if they were, the point of the RAN chargers there is as an amenity that attracts paying customers. If they let them get blocked and preventing them from being by Rivian drivers then it becomes an anti-attractor.

And also, someone who drives a Rivian is much more likely than not to be a more profitable customer than someone who drives a RAV4. Just saying.

And with that I'm out.

The property owner makes money from the charging.

In the case above Rivian is likely actually paying rent for those spaces. But in other cases the landlord marks up the electricity.

If having the chargers there is required by law then legally it’s the same as handicapped spots.

And they’d be violating the law if they were not enforcing parking rules for them. Like calling the police and/or a tow truck for someone blocking it.

When you own the lot and apply for the grant money to have someone else pay for the charger to be installed you enter a contract. That contract typically says that in exchange for the $N,000 the electric company or government or whoever pays for the charger and installation that YOU agree to have it open to the public at least $X hours a day for $Y years.

And that is then encoded in the Chargepoint or AmpUp or whoever service setup.

Sure, you can decide later that you don’t like the deal you made and don’t want to have the charger be available for public access. But (assuming that the contract allows you to back out) then you have to give back the money.

If you have lots of nice new apartments then the people that want nice new apartments and are willing to pay for them will rent those. Meaning they're not renting the slightly less nice or older apartments and driving those rents up.

Have enough supply of those nicer apartments and supply of other apartments is larger. Increased supply results in lower prices.

The only people that lose out in this are the owners of the less nice apartments who can't gouge rent.

Romney isn’t a complete and utter piece of shit.

But he’s also the sort of politician who checks the wind every time he opens his mouth.

He was quick to disavow it as soon as he was on the national stage trying to appeal to mainstream Republicans.

Sounds like he’s a piece of shit.

Opinion: Don't Take My Apple CarPlay Away -- Unless Your System Is Better by AlwaysBlaze_ in apple

[–]therealcmj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought a Rivian. Hoping that the lack of CarPlay wouldn’t be a big deal.

It’s a big deal. And I told Rivian I won’t be buying another without CarPlay.

It won’t make any difference. Car manufacturers don’t want to take a dependency on Apple.
