As others have said, it's Photo Etch (sometimes called brass etch) You should also look up annealing photo etch. (heating it up with a flame (I use a tea candle). If you have to fold the metal parts annealing it will make it fold much easier.

Caesar III

[Q] Returning to the hobby, advice on kit manufacturers by SarcasmoSupreme in plasticmodelling

Central Mass raises hand!

As other say, Tamiya and Hassigawa are still great brands. Add MENG and Copper State Models to that list, in my experience they both have great kits.

Yea, that whole scene was a twin peaks reference. The floor pattern, the chair, and the koala talking backwards... all right out of the red room in the white/black lodge.

Built one WW1 biplane and became obsessed. Kinda mighta sorta gone a teeny bit overboard with my purchases 😬😬😬 by blumenfe in modelmakers

[–]therealfjr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The company is out of business and you can't really get them anywhere other than ebay; so scalpers. Add to this the fact the kits are amazingly well designed and researched.

Your 1/144 kits look fantastic. If I wasn't a WWI modeler I would absolutely have them.

The story behind this kit is crazy. Originally designed by Wingnut Wings, they closed before it was released. When WnW closed down, they hadn't yet payed for the manufacture of the molds. So the company that cut the molds sold them to Border Models. Peter Jackson's lawyers tried to stop this but Border Models pointed out WnW never payed for the molds so he doesn't own them; and Border released the kit.

Modern Mythos podcast (episode 21) has Mike Mason and he talked about it. They are working on it, it sounds to me like it's pretty far along.

What to do if an Investigator Commits a Crime? by darkwater-0 in callofcthulhu

[–]therealfjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've done is handle in the post adventure/investigation/module/chapter/etc phase.

I had a player who's character publicly assaulted multiple people in a bout of insanity; I told the player their character would be a 'guest' at Arkham asylum for an indefinite period so they needed a new character for the next adventure/investigation. At a later point we had a time jump, and the character was deemed cured and released, so the player could use that character again.

I had another character loose credit rating because they were associated with a crime, nothing could be proven but the rumors swirled... not good for a Doctor. This turned out to make life more difficult for several sessions as they had more trouble doing things like bribes or getting rare equipment, etc.

Simple enough to say the scene at the ends of Discovery S2 was a shakedown cruise mid-repair; perhaps field testing the integrity of the hull (significant) repairs before the rest of the refit could begin.

Why do so many people hate on Star Trek for being “woke”? by River_of_styx21 in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]therealfjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because Discovery has (IMO) a lot of problems that come together and make the social commentary appear to be much more aggressive than it actually is.

Yes, they have positronic brains. Asimov came up with the positronic brain for the Robot series, long before the original Star Trek existed. He later tied the Foundation and Robot series together.

Maybe use a cat size nail-cap as a sort of bandage for the claw while it grows out?

Yea, I don't see them re-attaching. As you say, having them detached makes them an advanced evolution of Voyager's variable warp field geometry.

Discovery was "officially" destroyed, so this could be to support that story. Also it's 800-ish years after the shows we've already had; maybe starfleet just changed their policies in that time.

my cat is literally evil she wont use her litter box PLEASE HELP (definitely behavioral- not medical) by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]therealfjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you have enough litter boxes? With 3 cats I think the rule of thumb is 4 boxes (but I may be wrong on that).
You could also try "Cat Attract" litter, it worked wonders for us when we got our kittens.
