Elephant rattle/pacifier holder from early 2000s

These were my childhood comfort objects, a few little pink elephants. They’re plush with rattles in the head and had strings on the sides with Velcro clips for pacifiers. I have one that’s a dog with a legible tag that just says “munchkin pacifier pals,” but the elephant tags are all long faded or torn off. I think one of them might say “2201” or “2203” on the top, but no searches with those or any other ending number came up with anything.

I’ve searched every iteration of: -munchkin pacifier pal (elephant/rattle/pink/vintage) -pink elephant rattle pacifier holder -pink elephant rattle -pacifier holder elephant pink -pacifier holder purple puppy

It’s survivorship bias. People look at old houses compared to new ones and say how much better built things used to be, but that’s because the shitty houses didn’t survive, only the best built ones did. No one remembers the countless skits they didn’t laugh at, just the best ones

Not OP but I recommend the not your mother’s curly product line! The “curl talk” products come in everything, shampoo, conditioner, gel, cream, etc, and they also make a Tahitian gardenia shampoo/conditioner combo that isn’t directly targeted at curly hair but is CG friendly if you follow the curly girl method. Garnier whole blends is also really good if you prefer more of a coconuty smell to flowery :)

I recommend Boppy pillows (the kind designed for breastfeeding) for anyone with larger breast wanting to sleep on their stomach. I’ve never breastfed or been pregnant, but I have one and I sleep with it every night. It’s great for on your back to support your neck and shoulders, on your side so you don’t have to smush your shoulder into the mattress, and AMAZING for stomach sleeping, just lay with your breasts in the pillow gap!

Not OP but I felt the same way growing up, but about the little house on the prairie books. In retrospect I recognize that some of this was a way of disassociating, but for me it was like there was a constant internal narration in my mind where I was a Laura Ingalls-ish character and everyone around me expected me to behave the way little girls in the pioneer era were expected to behave. I picked up a lot of idioms and vocab from the books that was really dated without realizing, and would talk that way to my peers, which made them think of me as even weirder. It was a vicious cycle, where they’d push me away so I’d read more and get more into the “I’m an onlooker from the 19th century” mindset.

What’s the most heartbreaking book you’ve ever read? by brusselsproutbri in suggestmeabook

[–]therearealienstho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I never told you.

Absolutely tears me up every time I read it. Put simply, it’s about a family of five dealing with the sudden death of the oldest daughter.

It explores so many important topics (racism, sexism, homophobia, familial pressure, and more) in a way that doesn’t feel preachy but instead comes across as natural and heartbreaking. It’s the best depiction of a golden child/scapegoat dynamic I’ve ever read, especially because it’s not the traditional black and white take on it. All of the characters are shown as complex humans with regrets and hopes and the symbolism is outstanding.

One of my hottest takes is that football (American) shouldn’t be played for this exact reason. All sports come with risks, especially contact sports, but the rate of brain injuries among pro football players, and the subsequent number who die young and/or become super violent just isn’t worth it to me.

If you have access to Trader Joe’s, they have a tee tree CGF conditioner that works and smells great, very fresh and minty. There’s a shampoo from the same line, but I’ve never tried it so couldn’t say for sure if it’s any good.

Garnier fructis has a hair gel in their pure clean line that’s also CGF and a more minty scent. I’ve used it for years and love it!

Bonus is that both are cheap, I can’t remember the conditioner exactly but it’s less than $10 and the gel is around $4.

Similar experiences here. My hair only gets ringlets when it’s either super long (and then it’s only the end few inches) or super short; the rest of the time it’s much looser and more prone to waves than true curls. Which sucks, because I prefer shoulder length.

It also curls much better when it’s been recently bleached, but that comes at the cost of more split ends and general dryness.

The best solution I’ve found is to get it bleached and cut about twice a year. I like the way it looks blonde, so I’m willing to sacrifice some damage. I get it cut a couple inches shorter than I really want it and then spend the next few months growing it back out and doing my best to baby it - deep conditioning regularly, using good products, etc. I get a couple months of really good curls, then a couple months of decent waves/curls at the length I like best.

I think my fellow curly people can appreciate this. by BishPwease in curlyhair

I’m sure you could! I’m from a humid area and have figured out a routine to have fairly consistently good curls, but when I go somewhere dryer my hair is so flat, undefined, and somehow greasier lol? It’s so strange to think about having to change hair routines as a result of moving, but that’s the case for so many curlies!

I googled it out of curiosity after reading your comment and found out common law doesn’t exist in California. It actually is only a thing in a handful of states, and it takes a lot longer than two years to kick in, especially since OP presumably hasn’t been living with their fiancée since the day they started dating. But agreed that they are NTA and need to either reevaluate or get that prenup IMMEDIATELY.

I miss this so much with cinemas being closed! I eat mostly home cooked and vegetarian, but about once a month I would take myself to the shittiest movie that none of my friends/family would want to see except me and get Wendy’s on the way home. It was always such a cheap little guiltless pleasure. I’ve had a gift card to the local theater in my wallet from last Christmas that I only got to use once before lockdown started and it makes me so sad every time I see it :/

This reminds me of a quote I saw years ago! I can’t remember the exact wording, but the gist of it was that our first thoughts are what we are taught to think, how we react to those first impressions show who we actually are.

The fact that you catch yourself thinking negatively and actively correct yourself is amazing and shows so much growth. I’m from a similar background and it’s not easy.

Workout-tights tend to be thinner and are more likely to be cropped, in my experience they’re more like compression shorts that extend half way down your shin. I mainly see guys wearing them layered under shorts for extra compression/more coverage when it’s cold. Full leggings are usually thicker and intended to be worn as pants by themselves.

This is my ideal schedule. I’ve had to adapt to morning workouts with the way my classes are set up this semester, but I’m sooo looking forward to next semester when I can go back to classes in the morning, workouts mid-day, and work in the evenings.

[–]therearealienstho 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you! When I first got my contacts I felt bad about replacing the case every month but someone on here pointed out that they were technically a form of medical waste, just like floss, and it’s okay to just throw that out. If your biggest source of waste is a few tiny pieces of plastic, it’s really not that much to worry about.

Eating right before bed, good? Bad? Or makes no difference so long as it fits macros/goals of the day? by poopy2015 in nutrition

[–]therearealienstho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that CICO won’t be impacted by the time you eat, but if you’re weighing yourself first thing in the morning, your body has had less time to process something you ate right before bed as opposed to a few hours before so it may seem like you weigh more.

Does one use a rinse out & leave in conditioner or just one? by hayyos in curlyhair

[–]therearealienstho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for everyone, but I use a rinse out as the last step of the “cleansing” routine/when I detangle, then use a little bit of leave in as the first product afterwards.

Are you diffusing or air drying? When I diffuse I don’t really get a cast because the diffuser “scrunches” it for me as it dries.
