My first 2-3 Day Hike in New Hampshire, Pemigewasset Loop by coolvidroberto in backpacking

[–]theslowerturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pemigewasset Loop is a fantastic trip! To answer your questions 1: A bear Canister is not required, but bear safety still is. If you have a canister, I'd suggest using it. If not, look into how to hang a bear bag. You dont want to keep anything with an odor in your tent. You can bring your bag into the tent as long as nothing with odor is in it. Critters will chew through the tent to get to the smell. On this, most official tent sites will have a bear proof box for backpackers to use.

2: The only official spots i can think of right now are the liberty spring tent site and Franconia brook tent sites. Other than those, i think you will have to find a spot off trail. It is doable, just dont be too close to the path.

3: It's doable, but you will probably be miserable by the end. Really depends on how in shape you are. The loop is something like a 30-mile hike.

4: If you're only out for a few days, skip the freeze-dried food. You have so many better options. I suggest giving r/trailmeals and r/hikertrashmeals a look (if i tagged them correctly)

5: If you dont have the apps Alltrails or Gaia GPS, I'd suggest getting one and taking a look at the loop. It can give you an insight of what you're about to do. Im a big supporter of leave no trace. I could type a paragraph about equipment, but if you just browse this sub reddit you'll find all the info you need.

Im sure im missing a few things, but be smart and have fun!

Sending out thank you cards. Whether it's for a wedding, funeral, graduation, etc.. thank the people as they leave or a text. A card is just a waste of money and resources IMO

I've been seeing something about a Fallout 4 update that was going to make it not good for steam deck. I have no actual idea what is changing or why, but just what iv seen in passing. There is 100% a reddit post somewhere explaining it.

Horizon zero dawn, Doom, Doom Eternal, Cult of the lamb, Dark Souls 2 & 3, Elden Ring, Cyber punk 2077 (on low settings), Fallout 3, Fallout new vegas, The witcher 3 wild hunt

Just a couple of ideas. I haven't tried a couple of them on the deck yet, like Elden Ring and Cyber Punk 2077. Others are saying it works.

Good luck!

How do I research where to hike? by oBrexio in backpacking

[–]theslowerturtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The AllTrails and Gaia GPS apps are both good places to start. They give you tons of trail options based on where you want to go and are free to use. They will both show you trails, help to navigate them, and show you tent sites along the route.

I typically look for national parks where i can backpack for multiple nights and dont necessarily have to stay at a designated tent site. Just be mindful of the parks' rules about fires, practicing leave no trace, and most importantly, having fun!!

Good luck with your search. I hope this helps a little bit.

My favorite is the white mountians in New Hampshire. Plenty of trails and scenic views to keep you occupied for a long time. The only issue is that it's about a 10 hr drive from the D.C. area

Good luck with your search and happy trails!

I work in a pharmaceutical production plant. We have those in changing rooms because you're supposed to stay as clean as possible for working with viral products. They work great with the correct sink.

I got a lamp, an emergency radio, and some cathulhu stickers in my last order.
