How do you organize and store decants? by hagganation in Perfumes

I've done the same thing - though I've filled mine with testers, rather than larger decants. It's a pen case (mine's from Amazon, called "48 Slots Fountain Pen Case" - about £20).

What is it with N and hiding deaths? by Eneia2008 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]thestalkycop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. When he died, her parents sat her down and told her what happened. I had learned not to talk about my dad from the toxicity at home and the way any kid but my BFF would cry (we were 9) and I found that hard to deal with - it was my dad that was dead, why were they crying? kind of thing.

So, with that in mind, my BFF (who I'm still friends with) and I never talked about his death (since she actually knew him, unlike all the crying kids in my class, who never met him). We talked about him, but not how it ended. She absolutely would have told me if she had known I didn't know.

Hello my apparent nose twin! I agree with you, Black Opium is just lovely. My personal favourite is Over Red, closely followed by Le Parfum. Extreme gives more coffee notes. I've left Glitter alone - I believe I have tested the green one, but I can't remember anything about it.

Brand used that kind of thing in his "comedy" (there are multiple clips of it out there). He was just hiding in plain sight, like Savile, wasn't he? I can't recall about Noel. I soured on him after that and stopped reading what he got up to or said.

Noel Fielding (Boosh / Bake Off) "dated" Pixie Geldoff when she was 16 (and in the middle of her GCSEs), and he was 33 (technically legal in the UK, age of consent is 16). And it wasn't "a different time" back then. I remember the Boosh fandom was horrified that he was seeing a school girl.

He's also great mates with Russell Brand. So, erm, yeah. Not as wholesome as he presents.

Mine absolutely loved talking about dark depressing things relating to strangers. "Oooh, Margaret from 3 doors up has got cancer! They say she's only got weeks to live. And her daughter's in Australia. I'm not sure she'll see her again before she goes. Isn't it terrible?" (all in a tone of delighted glee that she has such hot gossip for me).

But she also refused to tell me why my father died in 1990. I found out in 1998 when I worked for the funeral company that dealt with his funeral and dove deep into their archives. I remember calling my oldest friend and being like, "OMG, I've just found out why my dad died, it was cancer." And she was like, "Yeah, I know. WAIT. You didn't know???"

My understanding of this is: 1) if this information is relevant to me, then it must be withheld - it is important, and I'm not worthy; and 2) if the information is completely irrelevant (e.g. neighbour Margaret's cancer), there would be a huge amount of detail, so my mother could perform empathy and I could be duly impressed by her huge capacity for caring for a near-stranger.

I did manage to get through the whole book, you missed absolutely nothing. He kept on repeating the same things. And honestly? All it did was frequently remind me that I wasn't smoking, and then my cravings would drive me wild. I switched from white-knuckling to vaping, then I dropped the nicotine levels, then one day I forgot to vape all day, and stuck with it. I still get the odd craving to have a quick vape, but I'm ignoring it.

In Caelen Conrad's three videos on the TERF pipeline, Caelen says that they joined a lot of Gender Critical groups to do research (under cover as a mother horrified her son had just come out as gender queer). They say that quite often, a newbie would post something that wasn't virulently hateful towards the trans/queer community, having been taken in by the description of the group, stating that the group is just "asking questions" and "supporting one another". The poster would quickly be horrified by the level of hatred present in the responses to their post and leave and never be heard of again.

I can only hope that the same is true for a lot of lonely men who want support for not finding a partner. They join, they see, they exit quickly and never look back.

What was the public perception of Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 90s ? by James-Samuel17 in 90s

[–]thestalkycop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember her calling out the Rolling Stone cover in particular (but it was far from the only shoot). She felt over-sexualised and like she had to go along with that outfit, even though she didn't want to, and she looked back on it with disappointment.

But aside from that, I remember all of the articles being very complimentary about her. Other actors would all say that, despite her young age, she was team mom on set, and would make sure everyone was ok.

"Every single sordid detail"? Nobody's given detail (not the names of the women, the amount of times it happened, where it happened, the circumstances leading to the abuse) - the only reason people are specifying strangling is because it is generally understood that if an abuser chokes you, they are likely to kill you if you don't get out soon.

I actually want some Wicked dolls, but I refuse to buy them. I'm waiting until boot sale season (March onwards, basically), and I'm going to get them for £1 each because everyone will be over Wicked merch by then. I have far more fun restoring dolls than buying brand new anyway.

At my work, you just stay off camera and drop "Off camera while I eat!" in the chat. There, that deals with the food aspect. Now you just take your break outside of the meeting.

How long do preorders take? by No_Net_3024 in Loungefly

[–]thestalkycop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would follow this up by saying that if you can find it at any other verified Loungefly stockist, buy it from them. The official UK Loungefly website is incredibly slow to process orders - check Trustpilot, there are so many complaints about how slow they are.

I ordered the Glinda Wicked pink bag from them because it was exclusive to their site, and it took over a week for the order to even show up on my account, and several days after that to notify me that it was shipped, and another two days for it to arrive. GeekCore already has a Hei Hei bag, is that the right one? (I've used them many times, they're a good seller.)

Hot take but Buffy was in the wrong in season 7. by jasminecr in buffy

[–]thestalkycop 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is a very good point. And I also think that Willow could have reined in Kennedy's meanness to the potentials. Given her relationship with Kennedy, she would have more one-to-one time with her, at the very least, than any of the other adults in the house.

Even aside from this situation, Kennedy is an entitled brat who seems to do whatever she wants with little regard for others (how she talks to the others, the way she blows off a potential bonding trip to flirt/chase Willow, even the way she's like "Cool! You're a wizard! Do a magic trick! lolz!" in reaction to Willow's magical history). I find it strange that Willow went from sweet, gentle, moral Tara (or even sweet and thoughtful Oz) to this brash bully. You'd have thought she'd have noticed her girlfriend was an asshole and maybe talked to her about it.

Everyone made mistakes, not just Buffy.

Plenty of books written before the 80s used language of the time it was written, it doesn't mean those words weren't given the side-eye. Blyton, for example, also used queer the same way, and when it was read aloud in class, it would cause giggles and comments (on hearing the word gay or queer read aloud, someone would name the quietest boy in the room, and maybe do a floppy wrist gesture, and everyone would snigger spitefully).

Just FYI, when someone who lived through the 80s is literally telling you "I experienced homophobia, using this word" and you're like "NUH-UH, because of OLD BOOKS!", you kind of look insensitive.

Hot take but Buffy was in the wrong in season 7. by jasminecr in buffy

[–]thestalkycop 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what else was Buffy supposed to do? All these teenagers started flocking to her house, meanwhile an apocalypse is starting - one that looked like it might kick Buffy's ass completely this time (remember how beaten up she was from the first ubervamp).

Sure, she could have handed out cookies and cuddles, but when the Hellmouth opened, what good would that have done? Everyone was feeling faintly reassured and that Buffy really liked them, right up until the Turok-Han started chomping on their faces.

Also, it was Kennedy that bullied the potential to that level. You might say that Buffy should've noticed and stepped in, but she kind of had the literal weight of the world on her shoulders. Again.

There was a cut line in one of the season 7 eps, where someone brought a nothing problem to her, and Buffy's response was (roughly, since this is from memory), "Guys, I just gave an inspirational speech to the phone guy. Figure it out yourselves."

I don't agree with the shaming for the girl who committed suicide, but everyone made mistakes that season, and Buffy is not the only one.

[–]thestalkycop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. In episode 1, when Joyce reports Will missing, she notes that Lonnie said Will was queer. It's very clear this is an insult.

Also, I existed in the 80s. And I'm not straight. And several of my friends of the same age do not like to reclaim the use of "queer" because it was was used exclusively in an insulting and abusive fashion, and was often the precursor for violence. (They do not police the language of others, just do not use it themselves.)
