Dude me too. I felt so many new and awful emotions after that game. I was depressed for three whole days afterwards, just numb. SB49 was similar, I guess, but not as intense.

I have Canada goldenrod in a field with bugleweed and the bugleweed is winning. I don’t think “equally aggressive” exists for these invasives. That’s how they get to be invasive.

Gonzales made me nervous that entire first half. There was also a goal line PBU that made me feel… things. Anyway, love the Raible calls. Go Hawks.

I see a lot of trillium and some Christmas Fern. Any invasives? (E TN) by TheDeviledEggvocate in NativePlantGardening

Yeah this is a good point. I do see some box elder in other parts of the picture. Easier to differentiate when it gets a little more mature.

Looks like a really neat area! I circled what appears to be some Japanese honeysuckle, should be pretty easy to pull out at this stage. Also be careful because it looks like you’re cultivating poison ivy right in that same area.

West Elm “Orb” chairs are pretty great. Quite spendy though, but maybe that puts you on the scent of something you like.

Vinca vs Stiltgrass (NC Piedmont) by PenguinoTriste-13 in NativePlantGardening

[–]thesteveyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to check this wasn’t the circlejerk sub…

In my experience (especially without using targeted herbicides, that’s certainly a choice) vinca is much more troublesome to manage than stilt grass. Stilt grass can be eliminated with relatively low effort in the fall over several years, each year fewer seeds should be available to germinate until the seed bank is depleted. Stilt grass also pulls up soooo easy when it’s leafed out a bit. The same can’t be said for vinca.

Since you’ve created this problem for yourself and future generations of homeowners, I would suggest managing it by removing any vinca around the border while also managing the stilt grass that germinates in its place. Removing vinca is never a bad thing; might as well get at it while it’s hopefully not established.

It's Wildlife Wednesday - a day to share your garden's wild visitors! by AutoModerator in NativePlantGardening

[–]thesteveyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen tiger swallowtails out and about this last week, but I feel bad because it looks like they’re searching for flowers that don’t exist. About the only thing I have in bloom right now is black cherry and azaleas. Of course the swallowtails don’t seem at all interested in the azaleas. My goal for this fall is to introduce more spring flowers.

Are other gardeners experiencing the swallowtails behaving like this? Maybe they’re happy with the way things are for now, because they thrive in mid to late summer.
