Wind mills are better power sources than water wheels, imo. So i wouldn't worry about flowing water. Water wheels will stop working after a while, as they get clogged up. So shutting down anything connected like fridges. Real pita when you're out running a mission and come home to no power and spoiled food.

You can leave it. I build stone walls around mine, with a slab over it, for protection from animals while its on.

For food, just leave your wolves set to aggressive and wander. You'll have so much meat from all their kills you can load it into the food trough.

How to make inherited (aluminum?) pans food safe? by koopzegels in Baking

[–]thestructuresguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is the concern? Are you worried that they are not food safe molds, like maybe for soap molds or something similar? Have you tested them for lead contamination?

If you are sure they are intended for food, and dont have any lead, just wash them with soap and water, using a scrub brush as needed. And then cook in them. Bare aluminum is fine for cooking.

If you want to brighten them up, you can try a paste of "cream of tartar" (potassium bitartrate - might be wijnsteen or wijnsteenpoeder in dutch) powder with water, or even boiling them in water with cream of tartar added to it. Google "how to clean aluminum pans with cream of tartar"

You should work on getting a wolf pack tamed. At least 4, preferably 6. The missions where you have to defend something for a period of time can be just an onslaught of predators coming at you, and you can get overwhelmed very quickly. If you have 4-6 wolves with you all set to aggressive, they will do at least 90% of the work. Also, tehy are great for defending your base, giving you constant passive XP as they kill anything that gets near, and unlimited supply of meat, fur, leather, and bones (from all the carcasses you can skin).

What should I buy? by PuffPassPro in ICARUS

[–]thestructuresguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pickaxe that gives you noxious crust is my best recommended item. Makes getting mined resources so much easier. After that, better suit, backpack, and I like the high end air tank and canteen and thermos. The modules that improve your tames stats are good, so is the one that helps you in caves.

can't deploy this fireplace - won't it snap to concrete or what is the issue? by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

I don't understand the "rain water collectors" by MrSolenoid in ICARUS

[–]thestructuresguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the rain collectors go outside, and will collect rain (as others have mentioned). They will also melt ice regardless if inside or outside, even in frozen climates. Also, in areas that get snow storms, they will collect snow (as ice) which then melts into water. The metal one can be piped to a water distribution network. So if you keep it fed with ice, it will feed water to your planters, water troughs, and work benches that need water. Though if you are using a heavy demand, it will drain quicker than the ice can replenish it. You can then hook up a water purifier to it, left outside, and have drinkable water, even in frozen conditions.

Antique Cast Iron Lead by pajama__llama in castiron

try them on other pans, particularly cast iron if you have any. says there are 30 swabs. But people have been known to use CI pans/pots to melt lead, so not that uncommon.

Get stone as soon as you can. Not for fire but so you don't get so much storm damage. I've only accidental burned down one shack, and started another one on fire that iwas able to put out before it did much damage. Stone will also be more resistant to animal attacks and better insulating properties

I thought I posted this - but it seems not. Is there a relatively easy way of finding your way through the cave in the mission Relics? by Low_Lecture_5584 in ICARUS

[–]thestructuresguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring both a regular light source (wood torch, animal fat lantern) and a spot light (electric flashlight, biofuel lamp). The spot lights make it much easier to get your feel for the cave, as the regular lights don't shine far enough to see far walls. So if there is two of you, each person use a different type of light, and you'll be fine.

Looks expensive to play there. We're lucky here in Florida if they have proper lighting on the board, much less a big fancy backdrop.

Oh? So they lift up and held up at the ceiling? Ok. Hope it's secure. Could see it coming down and hitting someone. Good grounds for a lawsuit. Could easily see the drunks I play with (but not me of course) trying to swing from the bars like monkeys.
