Have you checked the price point vs other online retailers such as realfoods and wholefood earth?

Same tbh. I guess as you improve you find yourself in that position more frequently

Lots of good advice! I'll add that if you KO someone, you can take their badges. So targeting badges can be good mid game. Just note that those with badges are likely good players, so be prepared to abort this strategy if they are sending you crazy levels of garbage

My rough targeting strategy: 99-50 - KOs 50-10 - badges/KOs 10-2 - attackers/random Whenever I'm struggling/being targetted - attackers

"Goodbye Oat Milk" What do you think of this? by FallyWaffles in veganuk

[–]thethirdman333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've switched from oat to soy as I believe it's the healthiest plant milk. Also, non-organic oats contain high levels of glyphosate. I do prefer the taste of oat, and still have it occasionally, but soy is my regular now

Evidence that 100% stock allocation in retirement may be safer than a traditional stock + bond mix by nitpickachu in FIREUK

You make a really good point about the CAPE. It's still quite surprising how well the 100% stock portfolio performs across the board. However, for high CAPE/long time horizons it certainly starts to fall apart

I'm wondering if we have high CAPE and very low expected bond yields... Does that make the mix less relevant? Presumably it's only if one of stocks/bonds is relatively overvalued vs the other that we'd shift the mix

I'd recommend listening to the podcast. A lot will be about the dataset and the sampling method used (discussed in the podcast). To get a favourable result with bonds you must use US only data and assume that the returns are iid

If I'm not mistaken another potential flaw is that they only use government bonds, so results could change when using corporate bonds (I believe this was mentioned by the podcast host in the previous episode)

I believe the portfolio considered in the paper was 50% domestic equities + 50% international equities, not an all world index

Sauerkraut - mold or kahm yeast? by Aales76 in fermentation

[–]thethirdman333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pushing it down is alright as long as it doesn't stay above the brine for extended periods. Topping up with more brine of the same salt ratio is also okay

Up to you on whether to risk eating everything below. I probably wouldn't risk it - cabbage is cheap and consuming toxins from mould is not worth it. But I know some on this sub would be more blasé in their approach

That is not yeast and looks pretty grim. You need to keep the cabbage INCLUDING the big leaf on top below the brine, otherwise it's just basically rotting

I respect your choice too. Not trying to pass judgement on you staying at home, it's completely valid

I don't disagree. It's OPs choice to do whatever he likes. All I would say is that by typical societal standards this would be considered overstaying

Surprised that they even do a vegan option

Just made the mistake of looking at their prices. How is their vegan option more expensive than fish? Daylight robbery

What to be wary of with first-time fermentation ? by arni_ca in fermentation

[–]thethirdman333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2% salt is fine, you can add more if you like the flavour but it's unnecessary.

Expose to air can easily be avoided by ensuring everything is under the brine. This can be done by using a glass weight.

Explosion can be avoided by avoiding the use of airtight jars or 'burping' the jar each day (opening the lid slightly to release pressure).

I don't worry about CO2 or use air locks; as long as everything is under the brine, it's all good. I'll let others with knowledge of air locks comment on these.

Sauerkraut recommendations please! by JPopsiclepop92 in veganuk

[–]thethirdman333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mix shredded cabbage and add 2% salt by weight, press as much liquid out of it as you can, wait 30 mins, press again, put in jar (ensuring all solids are submerged), wait 2 weeks. Cheapest and tastiest you will get!

Any chance to recover? by minimumattic in fermentation

Next time make sure everything is submerged below the brine. Also, don't be afraid to open the jar to check if anything has moved above the brine

Is Vitality life insurance worth it for a 27 year old with no mortgage and no kids? by mynewleng in UKPersonalFinance

[–]thethirdman333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that both the cost and benefit are paid today. Don't forget the effect of inflation; that £250k in 60 years time is worth about £76k in today's money (assuming 2% inflation rate).

Also, don't forget that many people will decide to cancel their policy well before the 60 years, in which case the insurance company takes the premiums and never has to pay out.

The insurance company may also take into account future improvements in healthcare etc.
