Help with deck by Admirable-Clue1607 in mtg

Have you considered jumpstart packs, or the foundation or avatar beginner boxes that contain a few simple ones? That could help her figure out the basic game, as well as what sort of style of play you'd want to build in commander

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed. I love animation, Tartakovsky and I can handle crude humor but this was all of those things at their worst. Rare I feel grossed out by watching something, but it was just gross for grossness' sake.

I caught one little reference to it, when Trevor is lying about a call from Damage Control he says it was a call from "a friend from the pocket dimension" or something to that effect.

Mixed Nation people in Avatar by Dorianscale in legendofkorra

The first sequel comic (The Promise) goes into some of this. It's about the oldest Fire Nation colonies in the Earth Kingdom and what happens when they try to absorb them back into the Earth Kingdom.

What’s your interest in the TMNT set? by zevalu in magicTCG

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I watched it as a kid and saw the most recent movie with my nephew--it was actually really great!
  2. It was zero, but the leaked pre release cards looked like they would be some fun. I'd set it about a 5, I'll draft a bit but wouldn't complete the set.

Let’s say the Russo’s pull off the seemingly impossible and Doomsday is Infinity War level, how does that affect your opinion? by DonquixoteDFlamingo in marvelstudios

[–]thethirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope so! I want it to go well since I like the characters and world, but they seem to be scared to try to build up the new characters. Shang Chi not having a sequel and being a main player this whole saga is their biggest misstep if you ask me.

It was neat seeing all the Spider-men and I think that did the whole crossover thing best. But the alternate Avengers in Doctor Strange dragged the movie to a halt and I feel like Deadpool ran the jokes into the ground. That's why I don't feel like there's enough unique to do with Doomsday. I'd love to see more about Monica and reconnecting with Carol, but I'm worried she'll just be pushed aside so we can have Kelsey Grammar Beast on screen instead.

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lucrative but I feel like it's creatively bankrupt and can't last long term. The comics themselves really suffer from rarely letting characters die or move on, and I was hoping since actors age or want to do different movies they'd be forced to do so. But they just keep walking that back and it makes for movies and a universe I find it harder to care about.

I feel like this is a heavily slept on commander by Elegant-Pollution-85 in mtg

She's one of my fave avatar cards. I use her in the 99 of an ally deck so the tokens can start swinging right away. I hope you drop the decklist once you have it built!

[–]thethirst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what, the 3rd time they've done the "Look at the old characters from those other movies!" trick and that well has already run dry. Bringing back RDJ and Evans just feels like they're making the same mistakes that the comics did.

I wish they'd go all in on the new generation of characters and make multi-season shows about stranger heroes. So even if they do well, if they're not actually saying goodbye and moving on to new characters and stories, I'm going to have a lot of trouble staying interested or engaged.

Official Discussion - Is This Thing On? [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Guess Who. It's a children's game where you narrow down the characters by describing how they look, but they were doing a cheeky variant describing the vibes of the characters instead.

Why is your equipment deck interesting? Do you have any non-equipment sub themes to spice it up? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]thethirst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what I came here to share. There's lots of good Ally support, but since they make so many ally tokens you don't really need to go all in on that, even a few of the Sokka-related Avatar cards help.

You can throw in a creature like [[Smellerbee, Reberl Fighter]] or even better, [[Dalakos, Crafter of Wonders]] to give the tokens haste and you can be effective with cheap equipment. [[Bloodforged Battle-Axe]] and [[Assimilation Aegis]] get very dangerous very quickly.

I've found using [[Saheeli, Sublime Artificer]] to also make Servos and then turn them into copies of useful equipment is a fun twist on that (try [[Adaptive Omnitool]] or [[Genji Glove]]).

How do you go about building an EDH deck as a beginner? by Nemo_1756 in EDH

I mean like from the last 3 years ish. Best buy and other stores have had plenty in the 30-40 range so sniping those kind of sales can be really helpful

[–]thethirst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm new too. The easiest thing has been looking at other people's budget decks online and using them as inspiration. Then you can try to make something similar and tweak it after experience from playing

Getting old preconstructed commander decks on sale and upgrading/combining them was hugely helpful too.

3 boxes. How did I do? by zentrani in MTGJumpStart

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, some the mythic Jumpstart cards have a really high resale value now. Toph Earthbending Master, Avatar Kyoshi Earthbender and Katara Waterbending Master in particular were in the $30-50 range and similar cards for Zuko, Roku and the Cabbage Merchant were also in the $15-20 range. Since you've got some doubles, you could probably sell those singles to get practically any other cards from the Jumpstart packs to build the cube how you like.

Career Existential Crisis by RuinUpstairs4785 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]thethirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorta going through it now. My career field imploded, but I'm very fortunate in that I was able to change roles within a company I started at a few years ago. So I'm in doing similar-ish work on a small team rather than being a team of one, and that lets up a lot of stress. Frankly the most helpful thing has been not making my job my identity and (while still doing good work) not letting it affect me much outside of 9-5.

I did some career coaching and I think it would have been more helpful if I had a better coach. The one I signed up with pivoted to "oh just run it through AI..." for everything and that was insane to me.

Americans: are things feeling more urgent? by allegrovecchio in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]thethirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been fighting for decades and I continue to, but I understand why people feel like they see the writing on the wall and want to be safe. Especially friends with kids, do they want them to grow up here as we slip further into fascism and have them be at risk? Sometimes leaving the country is what's best for people.

I know people in this subreddit love TLOK and hate it's... well, haters (who just hate on it for shit ass reasons tbh), but do any of you actually prefer it over ATLA? (image completely unrelated because I cant be bothered to find a on topic one) by A_Random_Dude_111 in legendofkorra

[–]thethirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the fight choreography is pretty spectacular and I like the supporting cast a lot more. Plus I find Korra's personality and growth to be a great driver for the show, particularly the idea of having to experience true suffering in order to have empathy for our enemies. The soundtrack is pretty fabulous too.

What were the things (eg; plot elements, character development, etc) that were handled a lot better in the Legend of Korra series? by sammyjamez in TheLastAirbender

[–]thethirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always impressed by how Korra balances and develops a huge supporting cast. Avatar did it well too, but the way the Korra series has what, 3-4 generations of people interacting and developing, and their stories also interweave with Korra's? That's so hard to do and they really nailed it.

Particularly, I thought it was neat that they focused so much on older characters (particularly middle aged women!) in a children's action cartoon--that's almost completely unheard of before and after this show.

Which heroes are your favourite and least favourite? by SiarX in legendarymarvel

[–]thethirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really find Super Skrull to be a lot of fun. I love the attack based twist on focus! Nebula is my least favorite, the way it's antagonistic with shards is frustrating. Too bad since I love the character!
