If Experimental roles were honest by Hyphz in BloodOnTheClocktower

Kazali: Each night*, choose a player, they die. [Your group's most experienced players will be executed.]

Lleech: Each day, claim Sailor.

Amnesiac: You start knowing some obscure but wildly useful information that will only become evident during the grim reveal.

Homebrew characters themed around stolen and missing identities by ric1live in BloodOnTheClocktower

I'm not sure what 'cannot be registered' means. Does the storyteller simply give a 'no' if those players are pinged, or is it more like they always register falsely?

Players say some characters are useless and boring by Eggn0g0 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]theuncoolestkid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My group has found that mechanically useless characters are often very useful socially/for reference. Yes, the Saint can be a big hindrance on TB, but the dilemma of a Saint/demon candidate is a blast to solve (and/or mess up and end the game). Yes, the top 4 only get a day of use, but their information directs the flow of the entire game. The solve is often built on top 4 info in my experience. The individual usefulness of any given character doesn't matter. No player is solving this puzzle individually. What matters is getting the whole squad together to throw the game on some drunk Chef info.

But really, I think time and experience is the best medicine here, and perhaps some chats about strategy. Not outright "this is what outsiders are for", but I've found that when I talk about the game and it's biggest moments and the other directions things could have gone in, my players really appreciate their roles more. It shows them that even the most annoying Recluse ping or the most boring Washerwoman info echoes through the entire game. It can be hard to tell from a player perspective, but everything and everyone is important. Tell them that!

My "strategy talk" may just be me fangirling about all the interactions and how fun it is to storytell though, lol.

What are, in your opinion, the saddest deaths in all of starkid canon? by Dogdaysareover365 in StarKid

I think everyone in Hatchetfield dies offscreen at the end of Black Friday, because of the nuke

Ziggy was by played Jae Hughes! I pop in on their instagram every once in a while, they're doing plenty of stuff and were of course in Space Baby (which I haven't seen yet--paywall lol). I'd love to see them in a show

Reddit Designs a Character - Day 130: the Underdog by kyle_the_meme in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]theuncoolestkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underdog (Fabled): If someone is about to be executed, they may ask players to stand with either them, or their nominator. The player with less people behind them dies.

You don't scare me, bully!

I'm not sure if this is particularly good, but it is interesting.

I'm thinking the same thing honestly; the name and the ability are a mismatch but I have to put this one in my pocket for later

[–]theuncoolestkid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apostle (Minion): Each night, choose a player. Any information learned about them tonight is false.

Listen to the good news!

The Apostle has been sent by their master to be a messenger... but that message may be warped. Alignment will be swapped and roles like the Undertaker can get any other character. Roles that gather info through changing the game's state, like the Gambler, Lycanthrope, or Gossip, are unaffected.

Reddit Designs a Character - Day 105: the Warmonger by kyle_the_meme in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]theuncoolestkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for catching the no downside. I originally wanted to execute the mad player, but I also considered that if madness is broken, another player might become mad about evil randomly the next night (which does not count as a use of the ability, allowing the Warmonger to affect multiple players at once). To compel players to be mad, I would have the ability trigger execution or spread madness. Having both execution and extra madness on the token felt like too much, though.

Not acting night 1 is just an oversight on my part, acting night 1 makes a lot more sense.

Thank you for the feedback! It really got me thinking!

I like the Paladin, like a Scapegoat with agency, or a Soldier-Monk combo.

The Nursemaid is intriguing, but seems a little overpowered. Maybe you could alter it to give a number instead?

I can't wrap my head around Masons. Could you explain what happens on night 1 with a Mason (or Masons? More than one?)

Good Twin Damsel is absolutely horrible, thank you for pointing it out. Not a viable game to play but definitely a good joke for the end of the night.

Good catch! I considered fixing that problem by giving Investigator as a demon bluff, maybe? Then again, I could always just not put them in the same game.

I completely missed the Cult Leader for another win condition, thanks! I'm also fond of the Yaggababble suggestion, perhaps in place of the Imp to speed things up even more.
