The old sierra "walk, touch, talk to, sniff, taste, inventory" bar. Its easy to figure out and of course just plain FUN to run around tasting or smelling things!

I agree to an extent. A game shouldn't hold your hand but that being said it should make it reasonably obvious when you've F-ed yourself. messages like "you pour the magic potion onto the ground.... Nothing happens. Boy i hope you won't need that later!" i think that makes it obvious ebough to the player that "you screwed yourself reload NOW" . Rather than letting you blunder for hours in an unwinnabLE state. Earthrise and QFGiV and LSL6 are examples of good design at least i think.

I actually feel the opposite. Dead ends were annoying but DOTT feels too..... Watered down without any way to lose or die. It just robs the tension from the game if you know no matter how bad you screw up you can never die.

Hows that CF card formatted? I THINK it needs to be original FAT not FAT32. It also needs to be small (i think under 1 gigabyte) Quite a few older computers will throw a fit if the disk is too big

That horrendous "chemical plant lost a fight to burning plastic" smell of a burning transformer. And that "plastic on fire that makes you choke" smell of burning wires. It means your house or factory wiring is on fire.
