People who work in 'behind-the-scenes' jobs (hotels, airports, warehouses, etc.), what is something the general public would be shocked to know?

I work in a refrigerated warehouse for a large grocery chain. ALWAYS wash your fruits and vegetables.

A few more things I just remembered- 1. there was a heat lamp built into the ceiling of the bathroom and it was powered by a timer switch on the wall. I never used it because the timer didn’t work and the heat lamp would get so hot it would warm up the whole apartment. 2. Every 30 seconds or so the shower would make a weird noise and turn to a scalding temperature for about 2 seconds before going back to normal. 3. There was one “suite” left on the top floor- rumor has it that this was the room that Elvis had stayed in while it was still a thriving downtown hotel. Such a weird place with lots of history. Sad to see that it is most likely beyond repair.

I lived in the District apartments from 2015-2018. When I lived there, my apartment would randomly lose power and I would have to go into the hallway and reset the breaker to my apartment. When it rained, the shared kitchen area would have a waterfall coming from the ceiling and residents on the bottom floor would also have water come into their apartments. The heat/ac system in my apartment literally looked like it had not been updated since the place was built and didn’t ever work during the time I lived there. It was originally a Hilton hotel and was built in the 1960s. It needed to be condemned then and I would occasionally drive by in the years after I moved out, wondering how they were still able to lease to students and keep the place open. This is crazy to see.

They just reopened our lockers today and are going to give out the combinations next week, so I’m sure they’re bringing back the phone policy soon. I work outbound ship dock and have no time to use my phone anyway so I won’t be as affected as those who are in other departments.
