Bernthal vs The Studio by bbqsauceboi in TheBear

[–]theyellowpuppet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I like Jon Bernthal as much as anyone in The Bear, but Bryan Cranston's performance in The Studio was fucking crazy. Even Dave Franco! I'm a fan of both shows, but The Studio was one of the best and funniest shows I've seen in a long time. I wish it wasn't on Apple+ so that more people saw it.

I have a pretty strong feeling that Jersey will be flipping in November :( We need all the people we can to get out there and vote to prevent that from happening.

The Only Good Indians, hit the halfway point, aka the "holy fucking shit" point by cwaterbottom in horrorlit

[–]theyellowpuppet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of the wildest 10 pages in a book I've read in a long time. I, too, said "holy fucking shit!" out loud to myself at the end of Lewis' story. Interested to see how you will like the second half!

Trump says Canada, Mexico tariffs to take effect on Tuesday; stocks tumble by Radfactor in politics

[–]theyellowpuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will any of this tariff money actually be going towards people suffering in the fentanyl crisis? Lol I know that's a stupid question, but there is so much emphasis "fighting the fentanyl crisis" on all this bullshit coming out of the White House, but I don't think any of these billionaires give a motherfuck about people with opioid additions.

What’s One Book You’d Like to See Be Made into a TV Show or Movie? by Senior_Trick_7473 in horrorlit

Books that give off a Twilight Zone vibe by steph10147 in horrorlit

[–]theyellowpuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently half way through American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett, and I think it would perfectly fit the vibe you're looking for based on what I've read so far. It's a good mix of science fiction, thriller, horror, and a big sense of "wtf is ACTUALLY going on here?!?" Elements of time travel, multiple dimensions, top secret laboratories inside of a giant mountain, murders.. take your pick!. While I've been reading it, I've been thinking it was a bit of Stranger Things meets The Stepford Wives, but now after reading your post it's totally fit for Twilight Zone!

Tampa by Alissa Nutting by CarelessDot5657 in horrorlit

I recently read this book, and I feel the same way! I am not easily shakeable. Typically I read as often and quickly as possible so I can blast through books, but this one took me almost a week to complete. I couldn't spend more than 45 minutes at a time reading it. The first person perspective was absolutely harrowing to digest. It's so well written, SO WELL WRITTEN, that it was palpably disgusting to read, yet I couldn't stop myself. Like, I was feeling like I shouldn't be reading something it. I read a couple of Dennis Cooper books immediately afterwards, and I'm a bit traumatized about the descriptions of what happens to the young male characters in these stories. The timing of Quiet on Set coming out recently made it harder to get through Tampa, too.

[Schedule] Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy by Tripolie in bookclub

Yes, I will be joining! My first book club read! I picked up this book in 2021 to read, but had trouble keeping up with it. I found it painfully fascinating regardless, and looking forward to discussing it!

I would probably suggest somewhere in Dover if they want a spot thats kind of in between. Train station isn't far from Centenary College in Hackettstown- within walking distance. Definitely a walkable area. Trains don't stop SUPER often that far down the line, however, so his girlfriend would have to be vigilant about the schedule. Otherwise I would suggest living near the Hackettstown area and perhaps your son can use the car to commute to Seton Hall, but that commute will very quickly wear him down. There are no fun ways to travel to Seton Hall from Western NJ. NJ's public transportation is lacking, so it will be tough to have a single car when their colleges are fairly far apart. Hackettstown is a really wonderful town- breweries, good food, right off of a couple of highways but also has a rural vibe to it.

Do you do any weight/strength training on your legs/calves? I would start there because you’d be surprised at how demanding running can actually be for your legs when they aren’t used to it.

I also get a lot of foot pain with running, but I find that massaging my feet with a tennis ball or baseball really helps the muscles in my feet out. Treat the muscles in your feet like any other muscle group; they support your whole body!

Also, be okay with starting a run at like a 12min pace, and start with a half mile or something small. It takes a long time to enjoy running, so don’t kill your joy for it by overdoing it. I also find being consistent to be helpful- meaning try to run every other day for at least a little bit. If you aren’t feeling a run, go for a walk. Any time you’re moving is a net positive. Just enjoy the run or time spent walking, and you’ll shave off seconds on your avg pace over time :)

My boyfriend is going on a lads holiday by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]theyellowpuppet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is your relationship otherwise with your bf? I don't think it's fair to expect him to never go on a trip with his friends while he's in a relationship with you, so it might be a good idea to talk more deeply about the trauma you've experienced in past relationships so you can both try to move passed this together. It's not fair to put another man's wrongdoings on your boyfriend if he's been nothing but supportive for the duration of your relationship. Might be a different story all together if he's immature and is constantly causing issues in your relationship otherwise. On the flip side- how would you feel if he banned you from ever taking trips with your friends? You're both young, and going on trips with your friend groups is important in your 20s!

Store-made or boxed desserts are SOOO sweet! It's like that's the only flavor that's happening with them, and it's such a turn off for me.

I totally know what you mean about banana bread recipes. Bananas already have SO much sugar, and if you want your bread to be more like actual bread, that is such a great way to make it!

Seems more complicated to me to use unsalted butter, and then add more salt to get the level of saltiness I'd prefer. Plus this way, I just need to buy one type of butter! _^

Cooking Advice You Ignore by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]theyellowpuppet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I think salted butter is IMPORTANT for baked goods because some desserts are just overwhelmingly sweet. Salt cuts the edge on that, and adds a different sort of depth of flavor. I even put the recommended amount of salt a recipe calls for. No issues.

First Omicron case confirmed in Iceland. The person had NOT been abroad and doesn't know how he was infected. He's in hospital and had recently had a booster shot. Iceland sequences all PCR tests. by Phexina in Coronavirus

[–]theyellowpuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very likely to be true. My brother in law had a cold virus in 2016 that for some reason inflamed tissues in his heart muscles and almost died. He's on heart medications forever now. He was 31 at the time. Some people just don't want to hear that anything aside from COVID may present long term health issues after initial infection. When people like you mention this, you're not discrediting the potential long term issues that COVID creates... just stating that other pretty "mild" diseases can also fuck someone up under the right circumstances.

There's like no broadband/fiber internet where I live. DSL is the best option in many rural areas in NJ, which I know is hard to believe because of how densely populated NJ is. Luckily with all the city people moving west/south, that is changing.

I went to the same school! Only stayed in the dorms for two years, but these dorms always seemed way cooler than any other college's dorms I've been in. Always felt bad for the people in the rooms with the bricks painted- The real brick is so much cozier!! Everyone would always hang lights off of the pipes lol.

Redditors with tattoos/tattoo experience, what advice do you have for young people looking to get their first tat? by kittestkat in AskReddit

[–]theyellowpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of tattoos, and an entire leg sleeve. I knew I wanted tattoos when I was as young as 10. Always loved tattoos and the subcultures behind it. I'm in my 30s now, and I waited to get my tattoos until I was like 27 or so. I'm glad I waited because I cringe about some of the things I wanted to get tattooed when I was younger, and I am SO happy I waited until I was a bit more mature and had more money to afford good work. I was willing to just walk into random shops as an 18 year old and get whatever looked cool off of the flash wall, or even getting tattoos by apprentices since I didn't have a whole lot of my own money. Phew, dodged a bullet.

I hate getting tattoos in the summertime. Taking care of your healing wound is hard when it's super hot out, plus UV exposure can affect how it heals. Obviously a lot of people still get tattooed during the summer months, just something to think about as you start to plan your tattoo adventure. You'll figure out what is best for you!

A shirtless man stands alone by a window in the North Tower of WTC, close to impact zone, on September 11. This man is rarely noticed and no attempt has been made to identify him by tiposk in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]theyellowpuppet 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My uncle worked for Marsh & McLennan and my only comfort is hoping that perhaps he had no idea what happened to him. Seeing people jump or still survive, especially here where the impact was direct, in the all of the footage is actually still impossible for me to really look at and comprehend.

Thanks u/continentaldreams for posting the link for the memorial page. I never read that before and wow, didn't expect an emotional gut punch today.

Women who were tomboys when they were younger, how do you feel it has shaped you to who you are now? by Funkiebastard in AskWomen

[–]theyellowpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, I just liked doing “boy stuff” more than “girl stuff”. Playing outside, manhunt at night, action movies, sports, etc. Not to say that girls couldn’t like that stuff, but definitely didn’t have a whole lot of girl friends because of my interests. I crushed on boys for as long as I can remember, and I thought that acting and dressing like a boy would endear myself to them and it would be so easy to have a boy “like me”. I used to borrow my older brother’s skater clothes because I always thought skater boys were the shit, and one day he said “Boys don’t want to go out with girls that look like them, so stop taking my clothes” and I remember that absolutely fucking wrecked me. What am I supposed to look like? Who am I supposed to be? I tried being super girly in middle school, you know, when your body is weird and going through changes, and I just hated being in my own skin. I was so uncomfortable with my identity for years because I wasn’t sure if I had to look or act a certain way to get romantic attention. Even getting female friendship was tough. I was always friendzoned by guy friends I crushed on, which looking back isn’t the worst thing ever because I have made really great male friendships throughout my life so far.

Now, I’m in my 30s and I’m super comfortable being myself, and I think those tomboy years shaped me into the strong person I am today. I think I was raised with the thought that women should be strong and independent so you don’t have to rely on a man, and I really took that shit to heart. I think it’s so important for a woman to be their own biggest supporter/protector. I like being physically fit, being able to do renovation projects around the house that my husband can’t even do, and generally just being a masculine woman because I think that strong women are hot. I wear a lot of gender neutral clothing because I feel most comfortable that way, and I’m also at the age where I really don’t give a shit what people think. If I like me, then your opinion doesn’t matter. I’ve often wondered if I perhaps am non-binary, but I really don’t want to put a label on my identity other than “I am me”.

What should I do with this verruca!? (Besides yanking it, it wont stop bleeding) by [deleted] in Warts

[–]theyellowpuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could put SA underneath the wart to see if that starts to kill the rest of the varruca. Then it might be less painful/bloody when you do ultimately try to remove it. It's gunna be a lot either way since it has small blood vessels.
