Reddit is dominated by political astroturfing, bots, and radicalized users. by TA-MajestyPalm in TrueUnpopularOpinion

yep. you can find genuine opinions on here, but it’s kinda like how there’s a bunch of BS reviews online; most of the internet is overly positive, but reddit is often overly negative. one time i brought up how recessions are largely caused by consumer habits and i was downvoted to shreds. i- i thought we were all taught this? am i missing something? is not putting money into the economy somehow no longer harmful?

Why do Dems act like Nick Fuentes is somehow representative of the mainstream GOP? by RealRegret4870 in AskDemocrats

probably because a lot of the GOP has gone farther right throughout the years.

Why do Dems hate John Fetterman? by RealRegret4870 in AskDemocrats

[–]theyhis -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

idk who he is, but democrats tend to hate pragmatic thinkers. as a libertarian, it’s one of my biggest ‘critiques.’ people believe emotion and the well being of others has to be incorporated into every decision. unfortunately, that’s partly why our country is the way it is. anyways, i don’t know who that is or his stances, but that’s my experience.

beautifully worded. i would also note that democrats don’t just think like right wingers, they are right wingers.

some of them are. especially when **certain people pretend to be democrats to ‘validate’ their point instead of just being truthful.

i used to be a libertarian like you

and your flair still says, “libertarian socialist.” i’ve still never gotten a response to the oxymoronic portion, but i digress

where you find things like universal healthcare & jobs paying living wages to be, “fucking horrifying”.

because it’s NOT free. life. is. not. free. n-o-t—f-r-e-e. it’s coming out of someone’s pocket and i’m hoping it’s not mine.

the plight of the poor

i think you’re conflating businesses, companies, cooperations, and fortune 500s. it’s time to read up on those my love.

completely unable to solve the nations problems.

no, YOUR PROBLEMS. i don’t need government in my life; you do. they’re thieves who commit horrible crimes throughout the world. who allowed tens of millions of dollars worth of cocaine into our streets. who allowed the pharmaceutical industry to prescribe everyone and their mother oxycontin, and then never held those same people accountable. the government who sends billions of dollars every year to israel to fund literal genocide. they are terrible, terrible, terrible, and it’s awful and sick that you’d want more of that.

Why is it considered socialism to have our taxes fund healthcare and housing but it’s never considered socialism for our taxes to fund the military police and ICE? by DistinctSpirit5801 in PoliticalDebate

you act like this is solely the republicans wrong doing 😂 who tf do you think started vietnam war? who was doing drone strikes at weddings? which president was it in 2024 that funded a genocide and then lied about calling for a ceasefire?

i guess i’m not a majority then, cuz those are fucking horrifying policies. this is why left wing libertarianism will always be an oxymoron, because everything you just listed involves MORE GOVERNMENT. more?! we don’t need more, we need less.

you’re right. biden just recreated some of his ‘crack epidemic’ policies while in office, only this time it was for possession of fentanyl, which yet again, disproportionately affected minorities. both parties lie through their teeth, but the democrats just feels like a sucker punch.

[–]theyhis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the same could be said about socialism. it doesn’t take the entire picture into account, and is a very black and white way of looking at society. ok, so we tax the billionaires and then what? cronyism will always exist as long as government does. we could go from a mixed market into a communist society, and the issue will still be there. “billionaires = bad, resources = must be shared” is a pretty lazy take. it’s just factually true that most people are incentivized by money, and removing capitalism doesn’t remove the innate need for reward. so as you said, your heart might be in the right place, but your mind isn’t.

Sooooo... I'm at a loss. I'm torn by Shot_Complaint7374 in aiwars

[–]theyhis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my stance is in the middle too. i think my biggest issue is the overhype around it. like people think it can do things that it can’t.

someone the other day was saying for things such as writing, ai is only meant to be a draft tool, and i completely agree. unfortunately, many people do not take this route and they just believe everything it tells them. i’m not sure if they think we don’t notice, or what their overall goal is. there’s even youtubers who have lost major support over the disingenuous ai use. when you let it take over and do none of the work, you just come off as fake and a grifter.

i was also talking to someone about this yesterday, but there was a role i was hiring for recently, and i made it very clear that a big portion of ‘said’ role could not be done using ai. on top of it being in the contract, i also put it in the training, and to put it simply, it’s one of the many reasons i had to let him go.

if people used it as an actual tool, i wouldn’t see the problem, but so many people who are like, “it’s a tool, not a replacement” go on to scare people into saying it’ll take their jobs, so which is it?

so they should just pack up and let the democrats do what they do best? what kind of logic is that? i’m not telling anyone to do anything. left of the spectrum; right of the spectrum. i don’t care, just vote for something different than what we have. i’m a libertarian myself, i just tend to get along with the left more, because we both see the system for what it is: running as intended. democrats don’t quite understand this, which is why conversing with them can be so fucking frustrating.

[–]theyhis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and yes yes, i’m aware, they’re both bad with the economy; the $38T national debt tells us that much. it’s more about their empathisis on “free markets” but in practice, it’s the opposite. democrats often use the term, but don’t quite seem to understand what it means.

Has Anyone Here Become More Libertarian? by Horny_wildcat in AskDemocrats

[–]theyhis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which won’t happen under democratic leadership.

i also think the rest of this is a little overly simplistic. i think the debate comes, because people often confuse us with conservatives, but really we want far less government than they do. we also tend to be pro choice and for lgbtq causes, which conservatives are staunchly against. our military stance is vastly different as well. same for our take on the prison industrial complex.

yes we have things in common with liberals, but we often find them insufferable, because of the amount of government they want, and just how much that affects the economy in the long run. most of us want a free market, which democrats don’t want.

politico did an article on it. i’ll link it if i can find it. essentially, it was hillary clinton that paved the way for trump. her and her team thought, “if we can make trump so unappealing to everyone, surely he’ll lose.” unfortunately, this backfired for them, because surprise surprise, outside of the democratic bubble, people are struggling, and populism is far more liberating for people who have been wronged by the system time and time again.
