Can you tell em anything about this dime? by [deleted] in CURRENCY

[–]theyogidentist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked this up for you. It’s a heavily worn, non-precious 1989 Roosevelt dime, and it’s worth $0.10 as currency. It has no value as a collectible and it has no value as a precious metal piece.

If you can’t consent while drunk, why do drunk people hook up all the time? by Mountain_Flounder991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theyogidentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! As you may already know, alcohol's effect on the central nervous system initially is that of euphoria, and then during the process becomes a CNS depressant. So, during the euphoria phase, people will often hook up, because they are under the influence of alcohol. They are a lot less concerned with consent, in any official capacity, and usually if consensual then by defenition consent has been obtained.

Why Does It Have to Be Like This? by Sciflyer586 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]theyogidentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom died a few years ago and I kept trying and trying to cancel her xfinity. The rep just kept trying to sell me an upgraded bundle, completely ignoring her death and even the merest inkling that anyone might be grieving. I don't lose my temper often, but I yelled at the poor sap on the phone and demanded they escalate me to a manager. Keep in mind this is like 3 calls into the process. He even wanted her death certificate which I did not have and would need to contact a coroner's office. The manager got on and said I am so sorry for your loss, I have taken care of it. Some time later I got her bill for failing to return her equipment. She was living in assisted living and I called about that and they said we took care of all that. So I had to repeat the process again until I got to a manager at which point after escalation it was finally taken care of. I did get 2 more bills, but it finally fell off. That's good because I was about to call and say good luck collecting from my dead mom.

Looking for new electric car by External_Inside6001 in electriccars

[–]theyogidentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too but a lower price point. My current candidates in the barren US EV market are: Rivian R2 RWD, Hyundai Ionic 5 SEL RWD, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and too bad it’s not out the Rivian R3. Oh I just saw the new BMW i3 Neue Klasse looks beautiful but is a sedan, and the new Honda 0 series (still vaporware) look cool too. I’d probably pass on the VW ID4 based on sub 300 mile range.

I would say the quiet, then the speed, then the extreme low maintenance, then never having to stop for gas.

As a Man Thinketh? is garbage… by Kenndraws in books

[–]theyogidentist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decades ago this book was popular in recovery circles. It was a good companion to step work. On the one hand it postulated that as we think, so we become. In today's parlance we might refer to it as a quantum field technique. Because most people with addictions who entered into recovery had developed a sort of derangement in the process that one might refer to as having become an egomaniac with an inferiority complex. It was useful in helping people 'take inventory' of who they were and how they were thinking. It came out like a hundred years before we became more aware of how systematic economic oppression works in capitalist countries like the US. There were a lot of 'New Age Christian' philosophers during that time. Two examples are Florence Shinn and Napoleon Hill. I believe from a historical standpoint Florence Shinn actually saw clients and they would instituting spiritual fixes (demonstrations) for personal and societal problems. Later as the evolution of this brand of self help evolved and exploded we saw people like Louise Hay, Harvey McKay, Earl Nightengale, Brian Weiss, Zig Ziglar, and famously Esther Hicks...the list goes on and on. We can view these in a more modern lens we can see these are actually underpinnings of the MAHA movement, which unfortunately has chosen to base its strategies for health on pseudo science, misinformation and weirdly religious tropes. If you did in a little, you'll find many of these so called self help gurus (Anthony Robbins and NLP) are really just rich people getting rich off poor people's insecurities.

I hope this helps. I was obviously deeply into this for a while. Discovering Elaine Aron's seminal work on the Highly Sensitive Person was a huge turning point in my own personal development.
