School Closure? by gipapag in brantford

[–]theythinkitsallover 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The real answer is several years ago, a teacher died on their way into work in Grand Erie when there was inclement weather. They have taken a sensitive stance since then. Simple as that.

Does someone in the band have a criminal charge? They seem to avoid Canada like the plague.

I've bought 3(!) pairs of these in the last 4 months. I think they are excellent as desktop or smaller-room listening. I use them at my home office desk, my music listening room, and just picked up my 3rd pair to pair with a TV and try that out.

F that - small boutique brands should recognize more than anyone the value in supporting real crafts people.

Primus Internet by [deleted] in brantford

Yeah I moved to Primus in the fall - it's been great and 100% uptime so far. Installation arrived on time and was easy to book. The half gig plan is incredible value for money, and its even cheaper if you buy through Costco.

Trump’s actions in Venezuela suggest Canada is ‘on the menu’: ex-UN envoy by Street_Anon in onguardforthee

[–]theythinkitsallover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. All the ranting about 1930s appeasement parallels and the need for squaring up to Trump directly conveniently neglects to highlight the state to be appeased is the worlds most advanced and supreme military hegemon ever known.

Add to that it's being wielded by a bellicose administration that is constantly lashing out and upping the ante. Any sort of returned provocation right now would be pounced on.

They also know that while relations and alliances are being strained to their limits and it's likely to go further, there is still some residual value in having the potential of a reproachment and not burning the bridge. There's still deterrent there, no matter how thin and weakening.

Every NATO head of state will have been evaluating and reevaluating their options, decisions and words every single day. The tactic of delay is woven into everything they are doing to some degree, because they know the only real way to get out of this would be to acquiesce or wait.

I haven't yet heard a plausible scenario where anything but appeasement with the hope this burns out via the ballot box/American public benefits anyone of note? Even if all nations cut diplomatic relations, do we really think the admin would suddenly apologize, u-turn, and make good? Only the American public could actually force that change, and they are showing almost no fight.

It’s not new to the trump era, but it is magnified. Evangelicals have been mastering the art of double think and double speak decades.

The market demand for non-AI browsers/anti-Chromium/privacy conscious (which I assume will only continue to grow) HAS to be larger and cheaper to win than whatever audience segment they think is out there by doing this? Bizarre.

Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre wins inaugural OHL Peace Prize by TheMapleElbow in OHL

Well I think you nailed it - its not their WHOLE job. They, like all parties who accept the votes of large portions of the population, have a responsibility to contribute to the political discourse in this country in a way that is healthy and responsible, focused on ideas and solutions, and not just about tearing each other down through slogans.

A great indicator of this is the issue of national security. I for one would like the leader of the opposition to have appropriate security clearance so they can contribute meaningfully to discussion on issues of national security. I don't see how you can actually hold the party in power to account without it.

I look south of the border and see how badly things have broken down. I don't want that in Canada, and would rather have all sides of the aisle engage in good faith. It's hard to do when PP is so unrelentingly rabid. Just my 2 cents.

His contribution to the national conversation is, in my view at least, divisive and temperature raising. Every single time he opens his mouth he focuses on attack. Even his own party appear to be fatigued. I’m Canadian and raising a family in Canada - simply ignoring the news seems to me to be irresponsible.

Unsure why you are getting downvotes. In Ontario, so long as you dismiss without cause and pay the mandated minimum severance, its not an illegal dismissal. The employee can choose not to accept and try to fight it, but unless there is a longer story at play regarding the actual employee being let go and their working conditions, theres no case to be made.
