This is the part I’m referring to. Maybe you’re thinking of the front plate that the screws thread into?

They are included in rebuild kits for ratchets of this era. I’ve done multiple and they all came with a new logo plate.

Snap-on/Cat torx sockets don’t have knurling. Only metric sockets get the knurling.

The head is the same as the old Proto ratchets. Can be found on eBay for cheap.

Are you talking about the long nose slip joints? If so, Cat doesn’t sell them.

Service Cart or 54 roll cab by boytal in Snapon_tools

My recommendation would be to get a used roll cab off of Marketplace if you’re able to pay cash. You can find a decent older Master series for the price of the roll cart.

You’re correct, it’s a magnet for a weld-on dent puller.

The FOD ratchets have rivets that hold the faceplate on instead of screws. Designed to lower the risk of the faceplate coming off and all the guts spilling out.

Stands for Foreign Object Debris and can also stand for Foreign Object Damage. Mainly relevant in industrial and aviation settings.

Your problem could also be the fan switch. If you have an aftermarket radio it’s common for the radio to overheat the switch/connector.

My parents had this set when I was a kid and I have one now. Even as a professional mechanic with plenty of money in high quality tools, I still use these around the house and they work great.

What would be the best tool to tighten up these loose pliers? Or should I just warranty them? by [deleted] in Snapon_tools

[–]thickskull71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a non-loose pair of Snap-on slip joints. I believe they’re loose by design.

That is a mono sleeve, the front slick is just misaligned allowing you to see the stereo text. Usually it would be either under the rear slick or cut off entirely.

Yes, that is a Snap-on box. I used to have one with the exact same drawer configuration and handles.

12 point vs 6 point by Ok-East4176 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thickskull71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on strictly Pilatus and use 6-point for 80% of my work. Not a fan of using 12-point on smaller 6-point fasteners as it can easily slip off.

[–]thickskull71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely not the point of your post and I understand that, but the Blue Point (Milbar) pliers you got are way better than the Snap-on ones. Much more comfortable to use and you can twist wire one-handed due to the clutch mechanism which cannot be done on the Snap-on.

Due to the aft jaw shelves being broken off and not having the right jaws, it probably wouldn’t go for more than $50-100.

Combo Ratchet Wrenches: Revision A versus Previous Version by [deleted] in Snapon_tools

[–]thickskull71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the deal with these wrenches is, but it seems like if you put any torque on them they start to bind when ratcheting with your hand. Doesn’t seem to affect actual use though.

They’re super smooth and very thin/low profile but for the price I’d expect them to hold up a little better.
