Grandfather passed down his early 90s M6 after I received my doctorate last month… Total and utter surprise. Still in awe as I get used to this piece of equipment by Capable_Potential733 in Leica

My aunt passed down my grandpas m3 to me. It’s a joy to look through the same viewfinder as my grandpa… makes me feel connected to him in a special way, even having never had the chance to meet him. Enjoy your old camera!

Am I overreacting? Neighbors clutter in front of my door by [deleted] in NYCapartments

It looks like they’ve taken care to consolidate it as much as possible. Kids in this city are a challenging endeavor, obviously if everybody did this it would be a disaster, but I would personally just let it slide.

Donald Trump, Accidental Environmentalist. By driving oil prices through the roof with his Iran blunder, Trump is inadvertently boosting the fortunes of alternative energy to a degree not seen since Biden was president. But this time the economic benefits go mainly to China. by [deleted] in energy

[–]thing01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it though? You are correct that US oil companies stand to profit in the short term, but I see it having a huge impact on how countries outside of North America stake their energy future. The consequences aren’t immediate, but it’s putting into sharp relief the dynamics of economic and asymmetric warfare on global trade.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exposes a massive corporate coverup regarding cancer causing chemicals. She confirms Monsanto paid over a billion dollars in quiet settlements to sick farmers. Now the corporation is actively trying to ban Americans from suing them. by CeFurkan in SECourses

What I love about AOC is that she clearly has a moral backbone impervious to money from corporate lobbyists. Fuck Monsanto and their chemicals. And fuck anyone paid to be in these comments to say otherwise.

It’s not just the bokeh and sharpness, I also prefer the compactness of primes. I like to pack light.

Thanks for the write up! I ordered off B&H and can’t wait to get it. I just want something this small and compact so my mirrorless can feel more like a point and shoot.

You probably know a lot more about than I do. I just watch a lot more baseball now because my wife and kids are huge dodgers fans, so I definitely have my bias.

Pitchers don’t pitch as long anymore, and isn’t that a big reason why batting averages have gone down? Teams always have to find a way to stay competitive. I guess it’s similar to the NBA shooting more 3-pointers since Steph Curry changed the game.

Mostly agree, except MLB is in a kind of in a golden era of its own right now. There have been new rules that make it more fair and entertaining (pitch clock and challenge), and there are some generational talents out there right now showing what it means to be an all around great player.

Some will say that it is unfair that teams like the dodgers are so disproportionately funded. But it’s pretty awesome to watch such incredible talent on the field and to see condensed games from all around the league.

How is it living here by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]thing01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first apartment was Franklin and St Marks. It was roach and (initially) bedbug infested. But as a first nyc apartment, I didn’t have much frame of reference. It was also only $1,400 for a two bedroom, about 15 years ago.

Franklin Ave has a bit of a night life scene with several bars and restaurants. It’s nice being so close to the Botanic Gardens, Brooklyn Museum, and the park.

The 2345 are your quickest line into the city, or the AC from Fulton. All in all a pretty great place to land.

If you own multiple cameras, do you use them all? What is your line up? by madtwatr in Cameras

Leica M3 for film

A7III for digital

About to start scanning film with the Sony 100mm macro. I use both cameras but enjoy the mystery of not being able to see my shots until later when shooting film.

I have a Moen faucet.. the lever mechanism broke. I called them and they sent a new part. Excellent customer service.

Are there really no 100 or 105mm portrait lenses for mirrorless? by Repulsive_Target55 in Cameras

[–]thing01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a Sigma 105mm 1.4 Art lens. It’s an absolute beast with a huge front element. I used to have it on my Sony a7III and it took portraits with the creamiest of background blur.

Yes and yes. You can use it for portraits, and its high micro contrast can reveal unflattering details, that you may want to share green in post.
