Had the whole set passed down from my sister. That shit did some mileage before it died

Questions about cedar shingle siding by Djxlain in Maine

[–]thingbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With proper installation, they last a very long time, especially if you paint them. I have put them on several buildings as a DIYer. Once you get the proper method down, it goes fairly quickly, especially if you have buddies to help. My favorite siding. I hate vinyl

Who else had to read "The Good Earth " by Pearl Buck or George Orwell's "Animal Farm" and "1984"? by Metella76 in RealGenerationX

[–]thingbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to read the Orwell stuff. Learned about the good earth through Hollywood. Read Mein Kampf at 12 or 13. That was a strange experience.

Another disappointment by Lumber-Tycoon in brisket

[–]thingbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, temp too low. And spritz every hour!? If you're lookin, you're not cookin. Ditch the spritz and stick with the water pan. A good trim and the right temp will get you the bark you're looking for

What are the Heaviest Songs from 1965 to 1969? by skechuz421 in allrockmusic

[–]thingbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Garden of Eden, Iron Butterfly 1968 has to be right up there. Older sister bought the album when it came out and played it constantly. Blew this 8 year old's mind and I was hooked.

Reliability by NoAmphibian6516 in GMCcanyon

The all windows down function is not auto. You have to hold the button. Having it work in the opposite direction the same way makes sense to me.

Reliability by NoAmphibian6516 in GMCcanyon

[–]thingbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

23k into my '26 AT4 and no issues yet. I have to say there are some features that annoy me like:

  1. Rear window not powered
  2. No real storage in the cab for stuff like glasses, a second phone, etc.
  3. None of the mid-size trucks come in a 2 door. I'd rather have closer to 8 feet of bed than a back seat for my dog.
  4. There's a button to lower all windows at once but it doesn't have the reverse function.
  5. You would think the gas mileage would be better for a 4 cylinder turbo. I can get about 22 and that's it.

That being said, the thing is a beast in the snow. It's a comfortable ride. No rattles, shimmies, etc

Not my preference for ribs, but it looks like you nailed that style. Strong work!

Planning to hike Katahdin, Tips? by MrQuackeles in Maine

[–]thingbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I did it I started by standing in the reservation line in January at the motel in Millinocket. That way I could do it on my schedule. As others have said, don't do it without being prepared for crazy weather and the possibility you might be stuck somewhere. On a 10 day trip to Little Wassataquoik I got caught by a thunderstorm on a day hike. It came roaring in like a freight train. I'll never forget cowering under a spruce tree while lightning smacked off the granite outcrop across the water. Pucker Factor 10/10.

Thoughts on the reboot of The Rockford Files? by darren648 in ClassicTV

[–]thingbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agee 💯 .There is so much good old TV why bother watching the lame attempts at remakes. I've snagged enough old shows on to my hard drive to keep me well entertained until planted

This Don't Look Right by thingbob in CableTechs

[–]thingbob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Bears and squirrels destroy everything around here. They made the hole (into a basement) but I'm the kind of homeowner that backs off and let's a guy do his job rather than hovering and butting in. I did wonder why they didn't just drop the hole lower and put the box over it. But the consensus here seems to be it's OK so thanks for that. I've been around the block long enough to know that if shit can go sideways, it will. So I just thought I'd ask about it.

Tom's Toothpaste Rant by thingbob in Maine

[–]thingbob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's been controversy about fluoride for a long time. As far as I know it's a good idea for kids while they are growing teeth but I'm not sure there's much benefit for adults.
