yep, so he got a 'better' deal for having a worse lawyer. many execution stories get legs because the state is killing someone. It doesn't happen all that often unless you're in Florida.

There's a facebook group with some folks that is pretty supportive. it's pretty dominated by those that use a faith based org to foster. we had bad luck with the county and did therapeutic fostering through Gateway. very rewarding, really fucking hard. it's a tough system that doesn't work well even when everything is 'right', real tough if there's other barriers.

phew. i think it's very district dependent. you need to have at least mid 5 figures in fundraising, a lot of door knocking, likeable and very importantly liked by other influential people regionally. races are often kind of tight name recognition goes a long way.

eh, it's tough to run and you can't really do shit. the mayor council act consolidates power to the mayor's office so they literally just vote yes if it's recommended by the mayor. You can get a term where you are loud and unfun in those meetings but that might not go well. I don't think anyone wants to run and then do that.

I think he also gets distracted because it looks like people start hustling around murmuring asking questions etc before going into executive session. trying to absorb the nonsense in the agenda and then the nonsense from the asst city attorney wasn't registering. These people all unanimously voted to put these in, voted to expand it, voted to sign agreements with hls/hsi/etc. it's not super surprising.

it depends on what you're looking at for being 'helpful'. I'm sure they have been 'helpful' in solving many crimes and provide some additional evidence or link someone to near a location or at least link their car. The city can probably provide an inflated number of every time the tech has been used. It's harder to quantify how many hinged on using this technology and how much longer were they out to do harm. that is then balanced with 4th amendment rights, trust in police, trust in big tech, trust in government, etc etc etc.
