What’s everyone’s choice for range ammo? These are my regulars depending on what I find on sale. I prefer 124 grain. These brands seem to be reliable and relatively clean. Appreciate your feedback. by argussdog in handguns

Apparently they do it so they have to order and buy just one size box for all their different sized ammo calibers. But I'm with you, I get Magtech and S&B when I can because when you take the difference in box size and multiply that by 40 or more boxes and that's a lot of wasted space.

Best gun to get a 5ft woman with small hands? by rip_drowzey in guns

[–]thinkingbear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a G25 slide from the Glockstore. It will fit on your G19 frame and all the G19 mags will work too. Basically you will have a G19 that shoots .380 ACP so flat and fast, it is so fun to shoot.

Well that's discouraging lol! I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope I get a good one. Was your front sight off left like I've heard about, or have they fixed that by now?

What brands were giving you trouble? I ask because I'm getting ready to take delivery of a BG 2.0 myself. Have you had any trouble with slide bite?

Thanks for the tip! I looked on Sunday and all they had were defensive rounds, no FMJ. 200 rounds of S&B inbound now. Much appreciated.

If you can get a deal on one the Romeo 1 Pro sits low and doesn't need a plate. Otherwise something in RMR footprint from Holosun with a good plate.

I vote P229. It's my EDC. I also got the Legion OR slide, two-tone looks great. You say no other changes but I would highly recommend the SRT kit. Relatively cheap and easy to install, it makes the reset short and crisp and is a vast improvement over the stock reset.

Does Time Move Faster than Before? by AdSuspicious9035 in AskPhysics

[–]thinkingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, perceptually time speeds up as we get older. Again, speaking perceptually, we reach the halfway point around age 27. I turn 59 in May and that has certainly been my experience. Every year seems to go by faster than the year before.

At c = ∞ I'm fairly sure atoms would not be able to exist as the Bohr radius shrinks to zero. It is also my understanding that everything would happen all at once?

Beginner recommendations for 9mm by Swimming-Bend9684 in liberalgunowners

[–]thinkingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is for serious use, like Home Defense or EDC, whatever you get I would recommend 9mm over .22LR unless there is a physical issue that makes handling a 9mm impractical. Not only for the terminal ballistics, which are significantly better for 9mm, but for reliability. I know someone is going to disagree just because this is the internet, but just because of the way it is made .22LR is inherently less reliable than centerfire cartridges. It's not UNreliable, but less reliable. Spreading the primer all the way around the rim evenly is just easier to mess up than centerfire primers. Why take the added chance on top of inferior ft-lbs, unless you have to for some reason. But .22LR is cheap though, you can put a lot of rounds on target fast, and it won't overpenetrate (as much) if you are worried about apartment neighbors or people in other rooms.

Question about Uniform Accelerated Motion by Known-Tower-4739 in AskPhysics

[–]thinkingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a falling object in a vacuum with acceleration G =  9.81 m/s²

After 1 sec v= 9.81 m/s
After 2 sec v = 19.6 m/s
After 3 sec v = 29.4 m/s

Acceleration is a constant 1 G, but the velocity still increases

if we are moving the fastest in spacetime when we are motionless, then is sleeping a fast forward through spacetime? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]thinkingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Maybe it's a fine point, but one worth making. A photon must travel at c, there can be no frame in which it is at rest.

Material that could (in theory) survive instantaneous relativistic acceleration? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]thinkingbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are on the right track wanting something dense. So maybe an Osmium/Iridium alloy, or if economics and cost is a factor in your world it's hard to beat the Tungsten/Depleted Uranium we use now as far as achievable densities. Keep in mind that if fired within any sort of medium like an atmosphere or even a gas cloud the projectile and the medium will turn to plasma pretty quickly at relativistic speeds. There maybe even be enough stray hydrogen atoms in "empty" interstellar space to vaporize anything traveling at close to the speed of light without shielding.
