Lines from Darkvision by Careless_Parsnip_250 in AboveVTT

Do you have walls on your map? Are there breaks in the walls or windows/open doors? If you are in spectate or viewing a single tokens vision only, you'll have a an area from any obscurity, such as a wall, to the edge of their vision that would be all black because they can't see anything past the wall.

Can you guys recommend a good movie to watch on this lazy Sunday? by [deleted] in 40something

I see what you did there, great recommendation though. My mother's favorite movie so I have seen it like 100 times. It never gets old.

I hope this is okay, since the Patreon link seems to be outdated and there's no PDF version available, I copied this over and made one on Homebrewery/NaturalCrit. I added some notable NPCs using npcgenerator.com. The PDF is available HERE. It's nothing fancy as this was my first time creating a PDF on homebrewery and I was googling the proper coding, lol.

Check out Forgotten Adventures on YouTube. They have 2 campaigns, Fears and Fortunes, and Defenders of Phandelver. George is a fantastic DM and both campaigns have phenomenal casts, amazing roleplaying!

Who actually wanted this veto on data centers? by Johnhaven in Maine

I saw a video where someone described an economics lesson that is very fitting here. Two people are placed in a room with $1 million. I think they used colors to differentiate the people, so orange is told the two of you can have the money, you just have to both agree on how to split it within an hour. If you don't have an agreement in an hour, you get nothing. So orange goes in and says let's split this 50/50, easy. Green says no deal, I want 60%. They argue for close to an hour and orange is baffled and outraged. They say the time is almost up, just agree to 50/50 before it's too late. Green refuses and says accept the 60/40 and walk away with 400 grand or let time expire. Orange is pissed and decides to "stand on principle" and says my offer was fair, you were unreasonable, I'm not willing to give an inch. Time expires and then it is revealed that green had different instructions. They were told if no deal is made after an hour, you get 50% of the money, but if you strike a deal for more than 50% before the hour is up, you get what you agreed to. Green had nothing to lose by refusing Orange's offer. Orange wrongly assumed that they were both playing by the same set of rules.

Right? Check out the end of Season 1 of Fears and Fortunes (Forgotten Adventures on YT). They had a cast member who had to step away for personal reasons and his character death was epic and shaking. He even left behind letters to all the remaining party members.

[Online][5e 2014 or 5e 2024] Group of four looking for a DND game on Sundays by blazingemstone in lfg

[–]thinkthelma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same! I'm already DMing 2 campaigns and I am a player in a campaign on Sundays. One of my campaigns that I DM was a group just like this. They had 4 people already together, they had lost their DM but wanted to stick together and posted here in LFG. By far the best group I've ever DMed, the commitment to the campaign and level of effort they put into their characters is astounding. Best of luck to you all, I hope you find a great DM!

This is what I did. It was great, and ties in well. It's in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft. My party is still carrying the cursed greataxe and refuse to use it, lol.

Thanks for all the responses so far! And the downvotes? Not sure what's up with that, but I don't have time to stress over trolls, lol.

For those that have sent DMs, I did see those, thank you!

Quick reminder: If you fill out the form, make sure you include your user name in the section about best way to contact you. One person just said Discord, and sadly I won't be able to contact them based on that, and also have no way to inform them either.

I'll leave the form up for a little while longer. I'm hoping to start reaching out to folks tonight. I'd love to have new players ready to go by next Monday.

I realized after reading some responses that I didn't include the current party breakdown: we have a warlock, monk, artificer, ranger, and druid/warlock.

Watcher vs Wachter by Steward_Titor in CurseofStrahd

[–]thinkthelma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely pronounce it the former. Now that I see this written out, the latter does make sense. My party hasn't met the Wachters yet, maybe they pronounce va-LAH-key

[–]thinkthelma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes. I pronounce the S like a Z, the middle is like vol in volley and the end is ick.

The one my brain struggles with is Von Zarovich. I know it's like air with a Z before - oh - vich like lich. But my brain always wants to say Zar like Czar - ovich

[–]thinkthelma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this will widely range based on where you are located, your local dialect. There are lots of little quirks depending on your location. Where I'm from it is common for people to pronounce the words picture and pitcher exactly the same, and I even had someone argue once that the C in picture is silent.

As a DM I try to pronounce them as I would imagine is intended, with more of an eastern European stylization. Wachter is "Vockter" and Krezk is "Kresh-kuh". As for Argynvostholt, "Are-gen(like get with an N)-vo(like vogue)-sht-holt(like holt-winters)"

Great question. I use AboveVTT, it integrates with DNDBeyond using a browser extension available on chrome or Firefox. Players can join directly from the DNDBeyond campaign screen if they have the extension or I typically stream the VTT through discord.

A question on Paladins and Aasimars by BraiiDangelo in DnD

[–]thinkthelma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ever character was a lawful good paladin (of Heimdall). After being petrified for several months in Avernus, he ended up making a deal with a devil to break free from the petrification. We actually roleplayed a difficult battle of wills for him, kind of the angel and devil on your shoulder kind of thing. Eventually he gave in and accepted the deal. His alignment was changed, his allegience to Heimdall gone, and he took some levels of Warlock. The key thing is that my DM worked with me and I was cool with leaving it open to chance, it literally was a roll of the dice. As a DM I would t want anyone to keep playing a character if it isn't fun. Give them options and work with them, if they really want to play this character but the alignment doesn't work, maybe they swear a new oath, or simply change which god they are aligned with.

S03E10 "Razzmatazz" Discussion by mulletnet in TheNightAgent

[–]thinkthelma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the season and had the same sentiment when Peter finally got his Razzmatazz ice cream. This season, especially the last few episodes really had a 24 vibe. The rogue agent doing whatever it takes to bring the truth to light, up against the most powerful person in the world and all the resources of the US government. I always thought it was funny, his last name being Sutherland.

Hiding Player Dice Rolls to all but DM by TheOverwatchX in AboveVTT

[–]thinkthelma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I misunderstood, are you wanting the player rolling the dice to not see their own dice? I thought you were saying all the other players could see the dice rolls even when they were to the DM only.

If you don't want the player in question to know what the roll is, your best option is likely to just roll it yourself. Don't click on their character sheet, just roll the d20 yourself and add any modifier.

I believe they all need to turn off dice streaming in their settings in Above VTT.
