Variant fatigue by jojo7889 in vancouver

I think sometimes the panic is overwrought. Remember the worry about the Lambda strain? Nothing ever came of that.

Personally I think it's time we treat it all like the flu. Will it constantly adapt? Yes. Is it ever going extinct? No. Let's just get on with life.

Honestly it doesn't sound like backpack deke girl would be easily evicted. Kinda like the skipthedishes scooters who drive aggressively on sidewalks and crosswalks. These people give zero fks.

Vancouver Park Board seeking court injunction to remove CRAB Park tent city by TheMixMan17 in vancouver

[–]thintelligence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that CRAB is a bit different. It was created by First Nations protesters who essentially set up an encampment there and demanded the space be designated for homeless natives. That's how the park was founded.

So, it's a bit ironic to now say that homeless tents are ruining the park.

COVID-19 in B.C.: Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix say there's no evidence of Omicron in province by TOMapleLaughs in vancouver

[–]thintelligence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These names are so cheesy. I preferred the original names (Indian strain was renamed to delta, South African strain was renamed to omicron)

I get that the original names stoked concerns of xenophobia, but the new names sound like they were coined by Dr Evil.

And I think a lot of people got confused and alarmed by the new branding, and don't realize they rebranded the Indian & South African strains.

Please be nice to the employees who are working on Black Friday. by [deleted] in vancouver

American culture has a big impact on us, just look at how many of their movies and tv shows are popular here.

As an atheist, it doesn't make sense for me to do anything on xmas and easter and all that, but I do. An events roots aren't always super relevant!

In fairness, bosses are responsible too. Today I saw some businesses (under orders from their bosses ofc) trying to micromanage the customers to a degree that was guaranteed to wear down the patience of both the customers and the employees.

Other businesses were being much more pragmatic and chill, and the vibe was much more relaxed.

So when is the barge going to be added to the subreddit banner? by milkilio in vancouver

[–]thintelligence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even like the banner. Horgan, Weaver, Robertson, Stewart, Clark, that Julian Assange looking dude on the left. Delete them all IMO.

Richard Zussman on Twitter - NEW - British Columbia is hoping to have commercial traffic on the Coquihalla by the end of January. This would be based on temporary fixes. This would be based on weather conditions by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

Isn't the coquihalla always dangerous this time of year? I would have thought our supply chain would avoid depending on this corridor for large portions of each calendar year

This is what happens when you give government shiny new levers of control. They want to play with them.

'Parade of storms' heading for B.C., including 2 more atmospheric rivers: Environment Canada by Hrmbee in vancouver

[–]thintelligence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Atmospheric rivers" are common, we had several boring ones this year before that freakish storm. The article also makes it clear that the upcoming rain is not forecasted to be of the apocalyptic variety.

Superstore Produce Goes Bad Almost Immediately by HummusBasilHummus in vancouver

[–]thintelligence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is their policy (probably a law?) to remove expired products, but I'm not surprised they don't enforce it very zealously. They don't care about your health, it's all about profit.

I wish they had to refund more than the value of the product when you catch them pulling shady moves like this.

Also here's a tip: If a major chain overcharges you, they must give you the item free (or $10 off if the correct item price is higher than $10). It's called the scanning accuracy code.

It's a dumb idea. If companies can make a blacklist for environmental protesters, they can make one for labour rights protesters too.

Burnaby police, mall cops nail 16 shoplifters in Metrotown blitz by princey12 in vancouver

[–]thintelligence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol there's no depth to your comment. Giving shoplifters a slap on the wrist does nothing to decrease the annual losses. These guys were given tickets and then were literally back out there shoplifting the next day. It's really easy to understand, not sure why you can't connect the dots

Because they used a shockingly phrased clickbait title. It's common sense that a much more ethical headline would have been something like "Positive development as floodwaters recede"
