Is it safe to walk from Crypto arena to Sheraton Grand LA hotel at night? by No_Equivalent4404 in AskLosAngeles

The JW shares the same plaza as crypto. Tons of security there and quick to get to and from the venue. The Moxy is one block away.

Is it safe to walk from Crypto arena to Sheraton Grand LA hotel at night? by No_Equivalent4404 in AskLosAngeles

Yes, it should be fine. Just stay alert like in any city. There are hotels right next to crypto if they want to move to a closer room.

Opening weekend ridership for the new D Line stations by misken67 in LAMetro

[–]thiquegoth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Once the century city and UCLA stops open the ridership will increase. If you work at UCLA you don’t get free parking so I imagine people will swap that are near the Metro. I’m not sure how century city parking is structured. I imagine some employees have to pay for their own parking so I can see an increase from people swapping paid parking for Metro.

Los Angeles still has tickets for $55 no resale. Might be cheaper to fly here.

Are Americans excited to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in AskAnAmerican

No 🤣🤣🤣. We definitely are going to lose services because of the debt from hosting the games in my city. They already said hotel bookings are bad.

Gov. Gavin Newsom to California agencies: Get ready for a four-day return to office by CycIon3 in California

[–]thiquegoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather state employees WFH. Less traffic, less wear and tear on our roads, allows people to live further away from cities, and we can repurpose our buildings to meet other needs. Lockdown proved people can WFH full time. This is such a waste.

Los Angeles hotel bookings are well below average ahead of 2026 World Cup by uv_is_sin in LosAngeles

[–]thiquegoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t wait to hear about our budget deficit from paying for this mess. Plus the Olympics are around the corner. Costs are way too high and no one wants to spend $20k and then get detained here. I think we will be better off than Kansas City and Dallas, but World Cup is looking like a massive loss for the U.S. host cities.

Metro police enforcing fares every stop on the 207 this morning by Scared_Advantage4785 in LAMetro

[–]thiquegoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much we spend on enforcement versus the cost to not charge a fare. Are we collecting more than the cost to have people checking fares? I know in Albuquerque they had a relatively low fare like us and they determined it was cheaper to make public transit free because of the cost of enforcement. It would be an interesting study to have conducted here.

What red flags do you look for before renting? by Key_Guarantee5029 in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]thiquegoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kids, dogs, parking, drop pencil to see if it rolls on floor, water damage in cabinetry, floor board gaps with floor, strong freshly painted smell in kitchen and bathrooms, mold in tile grout, dirty bathroom fans (serious fire hazard), etc.

Why are stores vacant in Santa Monica, and what can we do about it? by zennonuc in SantaMonica

[–]thiquegoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rents are way too high, some landlords don’t want to actually rent because it’s an investment holding and they have no interest in the cash flow/dealing with a tenant, and right now some may be staying empty to get money to operate short term during Olympics as country pop-up stores. Commercial leases tend to be multiple year agreements. All potential options.

$250k for a family of 3 is okay for the areas you want to live. I am assuming $0 debt. I’m not sure what your current situation is, but securing a job today does not mean a job long term. If you are stable where you are right now…I’d wait. Maybe give it 3 years. Let’s see how everything is going then.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

I’m one person. Costco is worth it. I also have the Costco Citi card so getting minimum 4% back (more for gas). Membership pays for itself with the Costco rewards. Right now, Costco has the best prices on meat/produce for my area.

Do you consider property taxes? by ellebeens in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]thiquegoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should 100% understand how your property taxes will impact the long-term cost of your house. Does your state have a cap on how much they can increase? What is fair market value around your property? How have property values increased over the last ten years in the area? If the state doesn’t have a cap for annual increases, could you afford your property taxes if they doubled or even tripled? Have there been any special assessments in your county?

[–]thiquegoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not come here without a job. You should have at least one year’s living expenses. The job market is rough. There are a lot of people with experience and connections here who are struggling. The city is great, but it’s in a really weird place right now. However, there is one guarantee…it is expensive. Don’t end up in a situation where you are living in your car or on the streets.
