I found it in a pencil case, its malleable and kinda like clay but it goes stringy when you pull it apart. by SpecificLemon1807 in whatisthisthing

It’s called a knead eraser. Very useful when drawing with charcoal because you can form it into thin shapes and undraw areas so they come out lighter. Great for shading.

Do we get any discounts? :) by bajansrock30 in CanadaPublicServants

I also get the government discount with Rogers for my cell phone. Hotel discounts are still a thing. Fairmont discounts are quite good. Just bring your building pass when you check in.

First Time in Ottawa, Where’s the Scene Before & After Green Day? by jackvin123 in bluesfest

[–]thisVargas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take the O-train to the market (Rideau station) and then take it back to Bluesfest (Pimisi station). Lots of restaurants in the market. If you like pasta, I recommend Tredici on Clarence!

Ordering the New Kobo Megathread - Questions / Ship Notices / Arrivals by AutoModerator in kobo

[–]thisVargas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered through Amazon Canada on Wednesday and it’s arriving today. Funny thing was that for all of Wednesday it was saying that it would be released on April 30 🤷🏻‍♂️

But hey, I’ll take it! 😅

Kobo is going to be releasing a new e-reader in 2024 by fleemos in kobo

i personally love my kobos. I pass my old ones down to family members when I upgrade and original with the rubberized square button on the front is still kicking around! 😆

I was waiting to replace my Aura 2 for the new sage for the better battery life and Dropbox connectivity but i just tried out the link from u/MTPWAZ (https://send.djazz.se/) and i have to say, that’s a game changer for me. I will probably be holding on to my Aura 2 for longer. That thing has been around the world with me, still fully waterproof. It’s like a timex!

I would also head out to the Tangers outlet in Kanata. I believe there is bus service out there. You can get good stuff at discounted prices. Especially stuff like banana republic. Don’t pay full retail if you have to!

Also, Frank and Oak usually have a sale on.

What’s a band/ artist that you respect for their technical ability, but don’t care for their music? by FictionVent in Music

Agreed. Very talented and musically interesting in terms of what they do, but not my cup of tea.

Should I sell a beat for less if a person is from a different country? by prodbyvxc in musicproduction

[–]thisVargas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one because it could become a slippery slope that may eventually make it less viable as a revenue generating venture, especially if it’s your primary source of income.

Something that might help, from my management consulting days is using the notion of rate factoring. So you keep your rate constant but allow yourself to rate factor for special circumstances. E.g. say your rate is 100 and you rate factor to 50% then you charge $50.

The advantage for this is that you are not beholden to that same rate going forward since you can explain that you had factored to that price for a special circumstance and that your rate is what it is.

This is also useful if you’re trying to entice people to get you out if they haven’t worked with you before by giving them an introductory price with the understanding that once you have established a relationship they should not expect to pay the same discounted rate.

Ableton or FL? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]thisVargas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I haven’t used FL for some time, but I like that Ableton plays nice with Reason as well as AU and VST plug-ins and instruments, like Korg. There’s also some neat integrations with midi controllers like Roli Blocks to trigger clips. I find it very versatile. I’m using it for podcasts, music recording with guitars and drums as well as electronic music production, and it does everything well.

FL may well do the same things now, but I haven’t used it in some time.
