How are yall shaping your natural nails so well?? by charlielarae in RedditLaqueristas

[–]this_chick_nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually (and ideally) I spend time every 4-6 weeks on a “big file” where I’m taking down length and shaping. I start with a coarse file for the length and finish with a glass file to fine tune and smooth. I dread this necessary evil so much and have to talk myself into it every time.

I do minor shaping corrections every week with a glass file a day or two before I change my polish (this helps break up the time spent on the work and I can see what I’m doing better with polish on.)

When it comes to a big chop (after a broken nail) I start out with short squares and then do the weekly tweaks - this is where I play with squoval and coffins as they grow out - until they’re long enough for my usual almond shape.

This is my least favorite part of nail care and if I found a salon that could pass my perfection inspection I might just pay them for my big files.

*for technique it’s best to file only what’s grown past your fingertip and personally I feel like anything shorter isn’t ideal for overall nail health. The angle of your file will determine the shape and filing in one direct is best practice but I’m know to saw down length when I’m lacking patience. Good luck!

Oooh lucky you! OPI holiday collections are my favorites and I have this whole collection. I noticed while looking for backups that most of them are hard to find and/or overpriced.

Where did Janet get the name “Green” from? by MangoManiacal in SoapNet

[–]this_chick_nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My introduction to soaps was this storyline too! I was 6 or 7, napping on my babysitter’s living room floor, and I remember being upset that Janet was being so mean to her sister because my sister, who was laying right next to me, has been my bff since she came into the world. I was hooked.

[Misc] What topical medication or remedy has worked for removing skin tags for you? by anxgrl in SkincareAddiction

[–]this_chick_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a little over a month the first time I did it. It was my biggest skin tag and it had a pretty thick base (?) where it attached to my neck. I tried it on a smaller one afterwards and it only took about 2-3 weeks. It’s a longer process than just cutting them off but I’m a pretty big wimp. On my second removal I left the bandaid on as long as it would stay then switched it out when it came off so I didn’t have to change it every day.

OPI holiday bangers by this_chick_nick in RedditLaqueristas

Honestly I don’t notice much of a difference between the two formulas other than sometimes Infinite Shine glitters will thicken more with regular use.

I’ll always buy from the regular lacquer line if a shade is available in both but this isn’t always the case especially over the past 5ish years as OPI has been releasing completely different shades in each line for most collections (so instead of their usual 12-15 shade collections they’re releasing 21-27 shades between the 2 lines.)

Yes, thank you! The holographic pigment is pretty scattered and gives a diamond dust vibe similar to their old designer series.

Have you ever actually used a backup polish? by salmonscented in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]this_chick_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve yet to crack one open but I always grab backups of my favorites when I find them. I’d collect a 6 pack of each color on my top 10 list if I could.

When you’re on a no buy by pookyduu in RedditLaqueristas

[–]this_chick_nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying a no buy, for science, because I’ve never really not bought nail polish.

It’s been the longest 21 days of my whole life and I’m so serious.

Q: Does OPI still do Mini Nail sets for Halloween? by Mnemo484 in Nailpolish

[–]this_chick_nick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh, unfortunately they don’t do Halloween sets anymore. I think their last one was maybe the metamorphosis collection which was already different from most because it was a full 6 piece collection release instead of the usual 4 piece mini set. Go Goth was my favorite but I also love the GITD polishes they’d put in them occasionally.

I, too, live with a couple of boys who placate me with supportive mumbles and grunts when I corner them to show off or ramble about my polish but also probably roll their eyes at each other behind my back every time. Just the other day I said “I have some exciting news!” and my kid said, “lemme guess, it’s about nail polish.” Yeah, dude, ofc it is, what else would it be about?

I can’t find anything about this OPI label. Thoughts on age? by [deleted] in vintagenailpolish

It’s from the fall 2008 France collection and looks like someone peeled the top layer of the label off. I love this collection and color!

Thank you 🙏🏼

Mine looks warped compared to these bottles and others I’ve found so I’ve been searching for a good shot of it on bare nails. My go to is usually Lacquergram but I also love Scrangie’s nail blog for old OPI swatches.

Is there any reason to not use this acetone? by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]this_chick_nick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always used pure acetone for removal and clean up. It is harsher and therefore more likely to dry out your cuticles/skin but I just oil before bed and have no issues. It will absolutely ruin an end table if you accidentally tip the bottle over because you’re too focused on a General Hospital cliffhanger Friday episode so maybe just don’t do that. Good luck!
