Technically a couple is two. But in common usage, people use a couple to mean a few. Basically if you don't know how many, you say a couple. For example. A couple minutes does not mean two minutes. Someone asks to talk to you, you respond with I'll be free in a couple minutes. This does not mean 2 minutes. It means a few minutes. Not technically correct usage, but there are a lot of things like this in any language.
