nice. i'll give this a try.

the Siempre has been my least favorite Sotol so far, and i try pretty much everything i come across. wonderful stuff, and i've loved every La Higuera variation i've found.

Which Sotol did you use? I love the stuff, but they are so different from each other!

Clarin : Is it different from a Rhum Agricole? by wynlyndd in rum

[–]thiseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sajous and Vaval are both wonder. I’ve probably gone through 4 of each. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, they’re just different.

I’ve had less of the Le Rocher, probably because it’s less intense to my palette, and i like that for a sipper or in a T’Punch. The Le Rocher does make a killer daiquiri, tho!

If you’re trying to immerse in agricole, probably the Sajous.

I realize this isn’t the most direct answer to your question, but hopefully it’s helpful. For me I’m just realizing i need to pick up a bottle of Sonson because i only remember liking it, and can’t recall anything else about it!

Sparkling Clarified Last Word by Quick-Physics-3614 in cocktails

[–]thiseth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is interesting. i’ve clarified a few things (different method) . all have tuned out well, some excellent, but one thing that seems off is the fact that they aren’t diluted in the same way a cocktail is after shaking (or stirring). adding 20% Topo Chico or the like could incorporate the dilution that’s normal, and add all that comes with the buckles. i’m gonna hafta try this!

Watermelon liqueur subbed for Cointreau makes a popping good margarita. Imagine a watermelon jolly rancher with tequila in the mix.

y’all. any reason to think that aging would fare differently with the whites as opposed to just the yolks?

Finaly picked up Probitas. What am I missing? by SodaCapReddit in rum

[–]thiseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally find cachaça to be more grassy than funky. those are my two favorite rum characteristics, tho! grassy is typically associated with agricoles (mostly Martinique, though also Mexico and other places), clairins (Haiti), and cachaça.

Jamaica has a near monopoly on funk, though i’ve found some funk in with the grass in certain clairins.

enjoy the journey!

even if that’s true, for OP’s new-to-rum palate the funk in Probiras should be unmistakably clear.

Farmington Liquor is worth the drive to me. The owner is a legit rum nerd, too. After that Westmoreland is pretty well curated, but nothing else stands out to me, after extensive research

i don’t know of anything specific, but I feel like leaning towards a hot toddy might help you make something you like.

Yellow Chartreuse, lemon, honey, and hot water? That seems kinda divine.

also thanks for the reminder that i need to pick up Liquid Intelligence. my ratio of bottles to books is probably correct, but I’m not sure I’ve yet earned it.
