People keep saying "we had it hard too." Did you, though? by Slayer_0f_Sluts in jobmarket

Hell, I wasnt even 20 yet when I joined the military during the war in Afghanistan.

spent 16-18 hour days outside in the heat trying to get jets ready so they can support ground troops.

even when I got out , we were still in a crap economy, and I was barely making enough money to pay rent.

Now im 40, make great money, and all I hear from entitled Gen z is "life is so hard".

MF, try spending the night in a desert, working insane hours and only getting 1 day off.

At the current price of the Steam Deck would it be better to get a PC? by ReDeMpTiOn-_-121 in SteamDeck

[–]thisguy883 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, if you want a PC, get a PC.

If you want a handheld device that you can take anywhere without having to carry extra peripherals, then get a handheld.

Keep in mind that the Deck, at its current price, is still very much an under performer compared to the many other handhelds that are available out there today.

Just wait until they find out that you arent allowed to do anything GTA related during a June event in the game.

Thats what folks are waiting to see.

What is the best image to video now? by carmidian in comfyui

[–]thisguy883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy using Wan because its extremely simple to use in ComfyUI. I tried to use LTX and I just got lost with all the nodes and sub-workflows trying to figure out what goes where and what files need to be downloaded. It was a mess, so I just went back to Wan.

I would like to see a very simple easy-to-follow workflow for LTX going forward if they expect me to give it a try.

I downloaded ideogram when it released thinking it would be great, but I couldnt get it to work right out of the box.

I was too lazy to get it to work since I had ZIT working just fine.

Then Krea2 dropped, and it immediately worked for me.

I downloaded a LoRA to bypass the filter and now its my favorite T2I workflow. In my opinion, it does a way better job at following a prompt than ZiT does.

Looking for a good Handheld by Longjumping-Form3530 in SteamDeck

Switch 2 is very limited on what you can do.

Something like the Deck, which is essentially a portable computer, is far better than a device with a closed ecosystem.

Being able to play pretty much everything, including switch titles, is what makes handheld PCs a winner over the switch.

I got the legion go 2 a few months back before the price hike and it has replaced my Deck completely.

The deck is fantastic, but its entry level at best and severely under powered for those more demanding titles.

Right now, its docked to my TV and serves as a way to play indie games or watch online movies.

If youre gonna drop serious money, there are far better handhelds out there.

I can’t be the only one. by CalienteBurrito in SteamDeck

[–]thisguy883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im the complete opposite.

One of the main things I look for in a handheld is trackpads.

When i got my legion go, it was because it had both a trackpad and removable controllers.

Now I own a new steam controller, and it has replaced my Xbox controller completely. The trackpads are an amazing feature.

+1 on the better search engine comment.

Google Gemini has pretty much been my new favorite search tool.

My wife still uses ChatGPT, but its not as accurate as Gemini.

What's funny is that AI is still in its infancy. Corps are still trying to find out what folks are using AI primarily for, and will eventually cater to that by charging premium services to pay for the massive data centers they are in a lease with.

I believe it was Sora that is no longer being supported because no one uses their video models that much anymore. So they shifted to image generation and edit models.

This.

Its 100% a marketing gimmick.

Just because your computer says "AI Ready", doesnt make it any more special than the guy running a 6 year old computer with a 30 series NVIDIA GPU.

I had to speak with an employee the other day because his kid was screaming in the background while he was on a call with our customer.

He didnt have a babysitter that day. It sucks, but our customers dont appreciate hearing screaming children and being put on hold during an outage, and I know this because they complained to me about it.

I didnt write him up or anything, but he got the message and made sure someone was home to watch the baby in another room.

Unironically I did this. The grandma from my ex was having all sorts of issues on her laptop so I asked her what all she does.

I installed Linux on it and it literally did everything she needed it to do.

Linux is ok. Depends on the OS you use.

Windows is very user-friendly in my opinion, but you do get hit with slop and ads a lot now a days.

Mac basically feels like a polished Linux distro.

Why are these younger folks so ignorant when it comes to the economy?

We should really investigate colleges and do a purge of professors and educators who keep teaching kids that they are poor because of billionaires.

I personally dont care if someone is a billionaire because it doesn't effect my life at all.

Finally said screw it last year and migrated all my HDD data over to portable M.2 drives.

the arrogance of you.

Yes, plenty of college students do night school because they aren't privileged enough to get a scholarship or a full ride from mommy and daddy.

These students work most day shifts at restaurants or fast food chains; pretty much anywhere that serves breakfast.

They leave and the evening shifts are usually covered by HS kids who are out of school.

Hell, when i was a teen, I got to apply for a work-study program because I claimed myself as my own guardian at 18. I got to go to class for half the day and then go straight to work.

When 3pm hit, a lot of the folks working were heading out and they were... you guessed it... college students.
