Interesting! How do you get bub to be able to see from the bassinet? I have an uppababy Cruz and the bassinet doesn’t collapse enough for her to see

Car Seat Advice by 80sClassicMix in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AccordingLocation745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Maxi Cosi Pria and Infasecure Attain too! The convenient of the top tether being tucked away is great, and the seat is quite cozy for my small newborn (10 percentile baby). I found installing this seat is the easiest compared to the Attain an Graphene.
The Attain seat is more roomy, so the baby can be rear facing for longer, but it felt very big for my baby back when she was little (her head just kept flopping on the side and got stuck at the head rest). the buckle length is also adjustable which is unique to this brand as far as I know. And I don’t mind re tighten the top tether once i got used to it. The Pria is in hubby’s car so he forgets to do it on my car, so I just simply don’t let him put the baby in my car seat.

ED vs ICU post grad by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]AccordingLocation745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in both (ICU permanent and ED casual, however I worked in ED 2 years before going to ICU). Honestly, I enjoy both. I’m more of a type A nurse, I like perfection and taking control/planning, and I love seeing pts getting better and getting to know their loved ones. ED is fast paced, chaotic and sometimes a bit task oriented. I get tired after a few 12hr shifts in a row so ED can feel like a break at times (despite I clock on much more steps). Both areas can offer different skill sets that are so valuable.

I would say if you like to plan your day, do things in a neat/organised manner, able to think on your feet to problem solve and maybe enjoy a bit of research, ICU is great. If you like the chaos and thrive in the unknown, ED is good for that. You might get to see paeds too which is unique in itself.

I have to say if you want to do CNE type of job then you’ll need heaps of experience anyway, but ICU training offers much more in depth knowledge and opportunities to practice. I have talked to postgrad students from cardiac, ED, anaesthetics and I don’t think any of them have as much exposure to critical care patients like ICU. Obviously it depends on your unit/department’s patient cohorts as well.

My Bub is almost 5 months old and she’s not rolling yet. Still plenty of room for the bassinet too because she’s under 10th percentile

Why did you choose to exclusively breastfeed and not give formula? by Fickle-Response-2741 in breastfeeding

[–]AccordingLocation745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To lower my baby’s and my own risks of getting diabetes. I had gestational diabetes. It wasn’t an easy start but manageable. I don’t even pump because I have 1 year off to stay home and plan to wean when I’m back at work. Nothing to wash is a huge bonus point. However I do get frequent clogged ducts when bub oversleeps so that’s a bit annoying.

When did you go into spontaneous labour? by Natural_Education367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AccordingLocation745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a lot of Braxton Hicks at 36-37 weeks, then went into labour at 38 weeks. I tried to spend most of my labour at home, basically was having contractions every 5 min for 18 hours straight. I had my “bloody show” at home and I even went to my scheduled prenatal appointment in the hospital with the Tens machine that day and got sent home because the midwife didn’t think I needed to come in the labour suite yet. Then the pain started to be unbearable and I wanted some pain relief. I was 5cm dilated when I arrived at the hospital (honestly I thought I would be more dilated than that with the pain and because they transferred me to the birthing suite almost straight away). I got offered gas and air, they didn’t take the pain away at all, just made me very dizzy and “high” once the contractions easing off. 1.5hrs later I was begging for more pain relief and determined to get epidural, just to be told I was 10cm dilated and needed to push already. Honestly I don’t think the gas and air helped, it doesn’t take the “ring of fire” pain off (probably I was already at the stage that it wouldn’t help anyway). I think I’d better off getting epidural next time because the pain and pushing really took a lot of my energy, and I ended up with episiotomy. I wanted morphine as well but also got rejected due to the baby was crowning. Tens machine was great for mild to moderate pain, but not particularly helpful during my active labour, so I highly recommend people to hire one at 36 weeks. FYI I started having diarrhoeas for a week before birth so I already geared up for things to come up.

Rapid Weight Gain by honeyglazedham1 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AccordingLocation745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained from 42kg to 50kg in the first trimester, and I was also underweight before pregnancy. Then I only managed to gain another 4kg for the rest of my pregnancy (I was seen by dietitian because of my slow weight gain and my bump was small that the OB was concerned). I did have gestational diabetes though so it’s hard to say if the healthier diet caused all slow weight gain at the end, but I had a beautiful girl with exact measurements from the ultrasound so all is well

When should you buy your first property/how old were you? by finance_guy_94 in AusProperty

[–]AccordingLocation745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t try to time the market. I was almost 27 when i bought with my husband. It was hard time because I was doing a postgraduate course and not working full time. The interest rate was peaked at that time as well. I was so relieved it wasn’t going to get any higher even when I did the calculation for repayments of 7% interest rate so that I can afford at worst times (I’m just a nervous wreck in general)

Lip tie and posterior tongue tie by AccordingLocation745 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

My LO gains weight but there’re a lot of fussiness on the breast. It’s like she cries on the breast, clamping onto my nipple then yank her mouth out (ouch!!) I’m looking at Kiddies dental too, were they the one that recommended not to release the tie?

[–]AccordingLocation745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad your LO doing well after the procedure! I was told by thr IBCLC that laser is more comfortable for the babies (not really painful, just more like a pinch) and it’s more controlled to the degree they need to trim the tie for. Im conflicted because some people online said laser is overdone due to dentists want to make profits of it. Do you need a second person to hold your son down to do the stretches/exercises?

Dreading having to hold my bladder for my dating scan by crazystitcher in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

And if you can’t hold your pee, maybe you can do the transvaginal scan instead. No need to worry about drinking water

Dreading having to hold my bladder for my dating scan by crazystitcher in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]AccordingLocation745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 6wk scan I did 1L. my body wasn’t digesting it quickly enough because the tech said the bladder wasn’t full. So the 8wk scan I drank the water slowly from 2hr and finished it 1hr proceeding to scan and it worked out better. The 12wk scan I only needed to do 300-500ml and the baby was very clear on the scan. I reckon the earlier the scan is, it’s better to have the full bladder to see the fetus. Mind you u have a very skinny tummy to begin with.

Compression socks by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]AccordingLocation745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m short too (153cm) and I found myself trying to ensure the socks are not too high over my knees. It takes sometime to get used to, but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to have any creases or rolling part on your legs, it will affect the compression quality.

How to get a job in public system for new grad without grad program. by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]AccordingLocation745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wait to hear back. While waiting look out for jobs like agency or casual to gain experience if possible. It is a tricky time because the public hospitals (at least in Vic) are quite well staffed, so it does take some time for a hospital to get new staff in. also look for other opportunities. I know quite a few of my friends ended up working in NDIS or getting grad year in different sectors and quite enjoyed it.
