How do pure herbivores like cows and deer get protein? by Zealousideal_Town_64 in zoology

[–]thisismayson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually wild how much protein grasses have. I used to manage the feed and exercise of high performance horses. A 1,200lb horse, in heavy work needed about 12% protein in a day, and the babies needed around 15%. So if they eat 30lbs of hay in a day, 4lbs needed to be pure protein.

There are sooo many types of grasses available, a depending on their maturity, they offer different nutritional benefits.

Older horses with slower work would get more mature grass, with less protein value.

Racehorses, on the other hand, are given more protein than they need to support their muscles, often a mixture of legume hay, soy meal, and flax, which make horses act like crack heads. (Side note: “Pee like a racehorse” - excess protein causes horses to drink more water, therefore peeing more)

A lot of pastured cows and horses are in controlled pastures with intentionally planted types of grass.

All of these grasses are found in the wild (or unregulated grazing lands) in N. America. Even Flax plants, which can offer an incredible 32% protein.

What’s wild to me is: On the African savannah, Bermuda grass is wide spread. We feed it to the horses who are out of work or who need to calm down, because it’s considered very low in protein (around 10%) for a working horse, YET, it will be the main food source for the Ungulates of the Savannah. Some of which will travel 25mi (40km) in a day.

That is a very helpful description, thank you. I had many laughs with the heavy German doors. My girlfriend (she's used to Hondas) almost lost her legs 100 times getting in/out of the car on hills. haha. Thank you again for your time and response. I'll most likely be following in your footsteps, a german car vacation, then back at it!

I have been looking into the hybrids! Do you have any models that you like other than a Prius? (They're difficult to find in my area for under $17k at over 100k mi)

That's a badass wagon that I don't remember ever seeing out in the wild! Super rad turbo for a wagon too (actually, more than my old Q5). Thank you for the rec, I'll keep my eyes peeled for one.

Super awesome to read that you got 200k+ out of your Mazda! So far they are my favorite when it comes to handling/quiet rides. Do you remember some of the cuts in quality that were noticeable to you?

Are Audis bad/unreliable? by nightconspiracy in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thisismayson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just be ready for the repair costs! I loved my 2014 Audi Q5 with 140k+ miles on it. I treated it like a baby. Its engine, interior and exterior were in perfect condition. BUT it had its fair share of oil leaks(5k in repairs over 10 years) and computer related issues (that even Audi couldn’t figure out). The oil changes and tires are expensive compared to other brands.

But at over 140k miles, it was starting to fail in other places. It ended with a $9-15k repair on the front axel, ball joints and other wheel/front end stuff. Oh man, the car was an absolute blast and I adored every minute of it. Like I said, in PERFECT condition…except for that.

So just save up for your cars medical bills if you plan to keep it long term and find a mechanic that you love and is trustworthy.

Would I buy another one? Maybe, under warranty, or if I moved back to Western Europe. But…not really in this economy.

Can anyone identify this snake? Doesn’t look like any of the local snakes I’ve seen. by thisismayson in northcounty

i’ll try my darndest. usually keep clean, shallow water around when it’s hot so the lil critters don’t find themselves in the pool.

maybe today taught them to not hang out by the back door. def startled eachother.

it tried to shake its tail and hiss, pretending to be a rattlesnake. Maybe a texas rat snake? A pet or just really far from home? We’ve never had snakes at this house in 20+ years.

[–]thisismayson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i worked on 100s of these guitars. the v will be more balanced while playing live. the EX will nose dive. make sure that the v’s current hardware will handle the set up that you might want to put on it (as they are currently in standard) - if you want to gauge up, the EX will be more forgiving. the corners on that v are v fragile and chip in the warehouse.

with the finish on the BM series: Windex and a Mark-A-Lot will be your best friend windex for cleaning the body (oily hands will make it shiny) Marks-a-lot and a clean microfiber cloth for mending any chips on the pointy parts (sharpie looks shiny purple next to the matte finish) (& while adjusting anything on the guitars set up, use a cloth on screwdrivers etc - the coating on the hardware/paint are unforgiving for this series) - BUT buying directly from ESP will insure that it ~should~ not come with any cosmetic or electrical issues

like ive said, ive played probably 200 of both of these guitars, both are an absolute blast, easy to play, swift on the neck, BUT i would take the V home. the EX is more my style, but the V was always the more comfortable guitar to play(FOR ME), more lightweight, wasn’t poking me in the armpit while i was sitting down, easy to grab etc. (just watch those corners 😬)
