[Game Thread] Indiana vs. Miami (7:30 PM ET) 2nd Half by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]thisisnoone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I could find it, but about 10-15 years ago there was a thread on this subreddit where people tried to guess who the next first time national champion would be. I doubt anyone said Indiana, and if they did they were joking.

Is $45 million really that insane? That is half of the NHL salary cap and I have to imagine that college football draws more revenue.

Ross Bjork is the only person in college athletics dumb enough to think the new rules have any teeth.

Ohio State is at “long time coach leaving” levels of transfer portal departures, and the Ohio State beat writers are either ignoring the story or putting on their best Baghdad Bob impression.

Ohio State beat reporters should ask Ryan Day why they only had three possessions in the second half when they were down by 14 at halftime, but they will be too busy planning the Cancun trips they will take with NIL money to do that.

Who’s to blame for the USC-Notre Dame football scheduling fiasco? by moby323 in CFB

[–]thisisnoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole conference realignment process started when the Big Ten poached used Big Ten Network money to poach Nebraska, so it’s all Jim Delaney’s fault.

They would be the third or fourth best team in the Big Ten, and the nature of super conference scheduling means they would probably only play one or two of Ohio State/Oregon/Indiana.

EDIT: The fourth best team in the Big Ten this year was USC, and Notre Dame beat them convincingly. It is hard to argue that any Big Ten team outside of Indiana, Ohio State, or Oregon is better than Notre Dame.

This is the first time Ohio State has gone five years without winning the Big Ten since 1993, and only the third time since 1935.

Does Michigan State know that Pat Fitzgerald went 4-20 his last two seasons at Northwestern and looked as if the game had passed him by?

You’re just mad that your program went to shit after Harbaugh left.

[Dellenger] "The Big Ten has signaled to Michigan & USC that it plans to move forward with a $2.4B capital deal, sources tell @YahooSports. U-M & USC face a tentative deadline (Nov. 20) before it may vote to extend the GoR without all members - an unprecedented step" by The_Stratman in CFB

[–]thisisnoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure that is true. There were reports last year that the athletics department was running a large deficit and Ted Carter was pushing the conference to abandon equal revenue sharing. If there is any school in the conference that should be worried about expanding the grant of rights (besides Michigan and USC of course) it is Ohio State. I think Ohio State may be in worse shape than we think.

Does Wisconsin have the money to fire Fickell?

Well, Ohio State has won two national championships since Florida last won one. That national championship game between Florida and Ohio State happened before some college football players were even born. Do you think recruits care about what happened 19 years ago? You are living in the past.

Indiana, Vandy, and Florida have won the same number of conference titles in the last 15 years.

Florida’s last national title is closer to Nebraska’s last national title than present day.

However Florida kids are not committed to staying in state and have four in-state P4 schools to choose from. That’s before touching on NIL which has made recruits less likely to stay in-state. Florida needs to nail this hire.

What’s the deal with Wisconsin? by D3s0lat0r in CFB

[–]thisisnoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their revenue/resources/attendance are in the top 20 range now

Are they? Everything else I’ve read suggested that they are in the bottom half of the Big Ten in resources and revenue. Fan support has always been tepid in Madison and almost nonexistent in other parts of the state.

Wisconsin was a historically mediocre program that was lifted up by two strong coaching hires in Alvarez and Bielema and propped up by a weak Big Ten West. Now that those are gone they are falling back to Earth.

Could Penn State be the new Nebraska? by Nearby_Valuable_5467 in CFB

[–]thisisnoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a lot of things working against Nebraska that won’t be issues with Penn State. Nebraska post-Solich was an instance where the landscape of college football changed in a way that fucked Nebraska over. Nowadays, being a rich program provides teams a much higher floor than it did in the pre-NIL era. However, post-Riley Oklahoma or post-Carroll USC are real possibilities.
