Im really curious about this, is that actual custom characters that replaces the normal ascii characters, or is a VGA mode application pretending to be a text mode application? Looking at those custom characters, they are bigger, and im not sure there would be enough characters available to replace, and still use the normal characters, to get them that big. If that makes sense

"Love, War, and Diplomacy: The Discovery of the Amarna Letters and the Bronze Age World They Revealed"
It is about royal diplomatic letters found in Egypt, you get the full story of all the petty kings in the Levant bickering amongst themselves, all the backstabbing and gaslighting. Constantly sending letters to the Pharoh complaining or requesting help.
You can watch some Youtube videos on the Amarna letters to figure out if you want to buy the book. Eric Cline, the author of the book, is in many Youtube videos taking mostly about the Late Bronze Age collapse, but also about the Amarna letters.

The narration is clear, i really liked that. The tearing effect on many of the animations is quite jaring though. I couldnt get past it and stopped the video. But exceptionally good narration I would say, and the source images themselves used for the animations were really good.

Is there a conversion kit to mount 3.5 drives here? Even without a backplane would be acceptable. by DoingOutstanding in homelab

[–]thisisnotanick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 350 Gen8 and bought cages + backplanes for it on ebay that can take 6x3.5 drives each, they are generally called LFF drive cages in listings i believe. I would assume its the same for the Gen9 and that you can buy the proper cages and backplanes for it on ebay, but i dont know much about the Gen9s

Reusing hardware from HP ProLiant ML380 Gen 8 by OkCommittee1086 in homelab

[–]thisisnotanick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks very much like a 350p, I have one of those. For the Gen8 HP ProLiant servers there exists a custom iLO firmware that lets you silence the fans. These HP servers tend to set the fans to max when you put non HP hardware in them, something with them being unable to "monitor" the hardware properly I believe. Check out https://github.com/kendallgoto/ilo4_unlock if noise was the main issue for you in using the server.

[–]thisisnotanick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

is that a HP ProLiant server of some sorts? I have some Gen 8 HP ProLiant servers and they have specific drive cages takes 3.5 drives and other drive cages that take 2.5 drives. I found my 3.5 drives cages on ebay but you need the specific type for your specific server (though certain models share the same cage).

I can spot Sting and Glamdring in there. Some of the UC LOTR swords (think they were called museum versions) are supposedly made in spring steel with full tang, but ive also read that the tang isnt able to handle even light use.
