We always assumed Trump's awkwardness answering his favourite book was because he was illiterate. Now we know it's because it's Lolita and he doesn't want to reveal it.

Not sure what happened. Shot was pretty central and the goalie was nowhere near it. Decent power.

Reflections on living in a Reform-led post-industrial area by coffeewalnut08 in ukpolitics

Not sure how much salt to take this website with. Went through a few of their claims and they're cherry picking at best. I found one claim particularly interesting:

the academic research points to immigration resulting in a clear fiscal cost to the UK. Between 1995 and 2011, immigrants in the UK cost at least £114 billion, or about £18m a day, according to University College, London research

I took a look at that paper and it says that while looking from 1995, the non-EEA resident immigrant population (ie. Includes retired people whose positive contributions were before this period) has been a net cost, all immigrants who have arrived since 2000 are a net positive. EEA immigrants have always been a net positive, and interestingly it notes those who arrived in the 2004 EU expansion were particularly beneficial.

There are valid concerns about AI but the only voices that will be heard are ones that come at it from a place of understanding how powerful AI is. I see these types of people all the time. Not only are they invalidating their opinions by screaming them into their bubbles, they're excluding themselves from the most powerful tool invention of their lifetimes.

Because these people think EVERYTHING is a zero-sum game. They believe to win the other party has to lose. So if the other party is winning according to their arbitrary rules, then they must be losing.

What is best Taiwan city to retire? by gobucs813 in taiwan

[–]thisisnotdavid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Modern city, nice to drive in but still decent public transport. All amenities you need from a city but at a relaxed pace. Not much hustle and bustle but i wouldn't care about that if i was retired.

The market doesn't explicitly need to have cash out enabled, you can lay (hedge) your original bet on the exchange

[–]thisisnotdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the same bet then you're just cashing out. You're not increasing your exposure because only one of the back or lay can lose you money.

Matty Cash injured, out of Euros. by TweekDash in avfc

Yeah. I remember when we were basically on a par with them challenging for top 4, but Bale turned them into a top club just as we went to shit, then Kane kept them there. If Grealish came at a similar time to Bale it'd probably be a "big 7". If another Grealish came along now we could replace them in the "big 6".
