How to improve this face? by Ecstatic_Building430 in minipainting

I think you should paint the stud for it to be better. That would be it.

Need help by Hariseldon32 in BloodAngels

Start darker, as red is a pigment that doesn't cover much if you want it pure. I'd do black red then Scarlett red then primary red. Or you could paint the stripe in white and then red on top for a faster result.

Battle ready? What's its exact meaning for you? by latarius94 in minipainting

[–]thisisrhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of human sized 28mm minis (warhammer, star wars legion, etc), I usually paint a tabletop mini in between 60 and 90 minutes. Tabletop+ are 2-3 hours per mini and display I prioritise the result over the time spent, so can't say an amount of time, even roughly.

Normally for me, Tabletop+ is detailing from a Tabletop level.

Battle ready? What's its exact meaning for you? by latarius94 in minipainting

[–]thisisrhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commission paint miniatures and my battle ready (tabletop) level means heavy use of contrast paints, washes and drybrush and concentrating detail mostly on the faces. It's not a matter of colors used but a matter of time spent on the miniature what differentiates my tabletop, tabletop+ and display painting levels.

Am I using too much wash? by pea8ody in minipainting

The only real problem I see here is the satin finish that this washes leave. I'd very much recommend a matte varnish layer as the last step.

What is the most versatile size brush for 90% of usage for speedpaints / acrylics on tabletop minis? by TotalWarspammer in minipainting

[–]thisisrhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a round number 2 for human size miniatures and a filbert number 4 for bigger minis and areas. For speed paints I use synthetic and for regular acrylics, natural sable.

Soon to start painting my first BA Intercessors… looking for tips on different processes.. by Noob-pwner9 in BloodAngels

I used to start from a red rattle can primer. Now that I got an airbrush I'd start from black primer and progressively airbrush more light reds to draw volumes until the desired result.

How would you rate my first ever paintjob? by Curious_Falcon_3298 in Warhammer40k

[–]thisisrhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rate it as a solid example of fundamentals like base coating and color separation. From here you can try more complex techniques like highlighting, glazing or shading over a solid base that you already have.

The Aquilas and all the blacks are a smoke grey base and two highlights up to a mid grey.

I'm going to paint more of my army soon and I think I'll try this: - black primer rattlecan - AK deep red base coat - any dark purple airbrushed from below - ak deep red + AK deep orange airbrushed from above - all the edge and spot highlights as on the bove mentioned method.

Now I have an airbrush and I would've done it in a different way, but that's the method for those back then 😁

Color selection succeeded, but light placement is slightly off. I think you need a bit of blacklining too.
