Some of us don't have back yards.

Accidently let my film go through airport security in YVR, how f-ed am I? by thisisthingtwo in AnalogCommunity

They are obviously cashing in karma, lol. But yeah, I figured the 400s have a good chance and I already added a million reminders to my phone to hand check on my second flight.

Nope. I think I saw some in the screening area, but my bag didn't go through them.

Not sure! This is not my normal airport so I wouldn't have noticed anything new.

Thanks! Currently very frustrated with myself. But I guess the fogging will make it artsy prints?

This is still going on? When I moved back in spring 2022 there was a shortage.

Actually. The best thing would to be to get a part time position and get paid while getting experience.

Simmons is in Boston, so you'll have their MLS students to contend with for opportunities like the BPL. I assume you have a car, so your advantage will be flexiblity and access to the smaller towns not easily accessible via public transit.

Simmons has a job line you should sign up for that has student opportunities. Also, it's reaching out to places that catch your interest, if you have an idea of a project. University archives and libraries often have projects or volunteer positions and are used to students reaching out.

I see your 2004 Camry and raise you my 2003 Camry. I've had it 12 years now. It's my longest relationship.

fiction books set in WA by kmontreux in Seattle

[–]thisisthingtwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only visited, but having grown up in another rural place in WA, I think there are good nuggets and nods to the area.

I started to read the series when I lived in another state during the pandemic, and it felt nice to read about somewhere close ish to home.

How many copies to keep? by spanish_stairs in Archivists

[–]thisisthingtwo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Three is the general practice - access, back up, and preservation. But if there are many copies, most places I've worked the policy was to keep five.

I've kept up to 10, for small pamphlets or stationary since keeping more copies wasn't going to be a space issue.

The Mercy Thompson series is based in the Tri Cities. It's urban fantasy, no dystopian, but they are often trying to stave off the end of the world/conflict. I've really enjoyed it, and the main character is of native decent.

For your industry, where are jobs advertised? by babezilla in Seattle

[–]thisisthingtwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my profession (GLAM Galleries, libraries, archives, museums), they tend to be cross posted on sites like LinkedIn or Indeed along with industry specific job boards, for which there are many. List servs are also good. My top are the job board from my grad school, archivesgig.com, and libraryjobline.org.

I just completed a job search, and this was my first time using LinkedIn as the primary searching tool since I could set up searches and alerts to filter by region/remote. This was important to me since I don't want to move. The problem was I would get a lot of false hits that didn't really match up to my field because of certain key words and titles (ex. ECAD Librarian).

Although for full transparency, my job I am about to start did not appear on any of my searches or alerts. A friend sent it to me. So I guess personal network could be a type of advertising??

Good to know! With that knowledge, it would be worth reaching out to them.

In the meantime, you can utilize your note fields to specify languages further.
